Hours: 32.5 per week, term time only

Location: Based in either Hemel Hempstead or Stevenage with travel countywide

Directorate: Childrens Services

About The Team

Would you like to make a difference to the lives of children and young people (CYP) with a physical and neurological impairment in Hertfordshire? This is an exciting opportunity to join the SEND Specialist Advice and Support Service (SEND SAS) as a Qualified Teacher, supporting pupils across the county with co‑occurring needs and physical and neurological impairments. In this role, you will work with children of statutory school age, helping to promote and sustain inclusive practice in mainstream settings.

Our well‑established service is seeking a committed and enthusiastic Qualified Teacher to join our Physical and Neurological Impairment (PNI) Team, working directly with children and young people in mainstream schools and educational settings.

The team provides high‑quality, effective advice and support to children, young people, their families, and education providers. This includes contributing to the development, delivery and evaluation of training packages, ensuring that settings are equipped to meet a wide range of needs.

About The Role

This role is responsible for:

* Ensuring the educational and developmental progress of children and young people (5‑25) who have PNI are met in line with the Hertfordshire Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Strategy and HCC strategic objectives.
* Providing advice and strategies to mainstream settings about individual children’s PNI and other needs.
* Writing reports and contact summaries following visits.
* Delivering targeted training to settings.
* Undertaking Education, Health and Care Needs assessments.
* Liaising with wider multi‑professionals and parents/carers.

This role involves you being responsible for your own caseload, organising visits, devising bespoke interventions, modelling strategies, advising school staff and writing follow‑up reports. You will be working with multi‑professionals and parents/carers to support inclusion and access to learning within schools/settings.

About You

You will be a highly organised, proactive professional who can work well under pressure while maintaining a flexible and collaborative approach. Confident working both independently and as part of a wider service, you will bring strong interpersonal skills and proven classroom experience to the role.

You will have:

* A degree‑level qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* At least five years of successful, relevant teaching experience, including recent classroom practice
* Expertise gained in a mainstream or special school setting, or experience within an advisory service
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and a varied workload
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
* The ability to contribute positively to a multidisciplinary team
* Proficiency in ICT, supporting all aspects of the role
* The ability to travel independently across the county (full driving licence and access to a car required)

English Fluency

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (for those whose language is a signed language the provision of a sign language interpreter who speaks English to the necessary standard of fluency will be required).

Driving Required

You’ll need to have the ability to drive and/or travel around Hertfordshire, either using your own mode of transport or a company car to travel to other locations.

Safeguarding

This role has been identified as requiring a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

Benefits of working for us

In return we can offer you a friendly, supportive working environment, a full induction and ongoing professional development. You can enjoy the support of a very experienced and dedicated team working together to improve the outcomes for children with SEND.

EEO Statements

The PNI team welcomes applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds. Hertfordshire champions equality and fairness. We are a Disability Confident employer and guarantee an interview to anyone disclosing a disability whose application meets the minimum criteria for the post.
