Full Job Description and Person Specification
As our Head of Business Development, you will be our strategic leader in income generation and ensuring our work reaches the right array of clients, supporting our sales process from awareness raising to contracts signed. The team works with organisations, big and small, to accompany them on their journey to embedding inclusion and embracing diversity and disability confidence. This involves providing services such as disability inclusion consultancy, one-to-one employee support, and company-wide training and workshops.
Utilising your dynamic communication and negotiation skills, you will lead the strategy, ensuring all new business development team members have the resources and support they require to nurture new clients through to the point of sale.
This is a role with meaning and purpose that needs someone who is excited by positive social change. You will be highly organised and have great attention to detail, with the confidence to share your ideas and work collaboratively with the new business development team and leadership team of D&A.
Alongside the director of finance, this role will drive the business development strategies to enhance the current portfolio of clients diversifying and strengthening the range of clients along the way with the ultimate goal of increasing income and creating sustainable sales strategies for the organisation
What You’ll Do
Overall leadership and strategic direction
1. Provide strategic vision and leadership for the Business Development Team (BDT), setting overall goals and individual team members objectives
2. Lead and develop the Business Development function, and ensure high performance and results are driven for the team to continuously deliver revenue targets
3. Ensures robust implementation and efficiency within the agreed processes and sales methodologies
4. Research and monitor emerging market trends and trends to inform new business development strategy
5. Identify core areas of interest for expansion into new markets and geographies
6. Collaborate on developing and implementing new business development strategy in line with the goals of the organisation
7. Develop an effective conference attendance and events strategy in conjunction with the comms team to ensure maximum impact and return on investment
Team management and development
8. Directly line manages and mentors the BDT, fostering a high-performing culture, providing coaching and feedback and celebrating successes
9. Ensures consistent skill development through CPD opportunities for the BDT Team members
10. Supports the BDT Team to achieve targets set and ensure individual and team success
Process optimisation and performance analysis
11. Drives continuous improvement of the account management process, analysing data, identifying opportunities for enhancement, and implementing effective strategies
12. Monitors use of software and processes used in the pipeline to ensure the effective management of data and client journey
Relationship Building and Management
13. Cultivates relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers in key markets and industry contacts
14. Overseeing high-value proposals and strategic partnerships
15. Managing the onboarding of client accounts
16. Create and oversee bespoke client proposals that confidently align with our delivery teams scope and capacity
Client Relationship Management
17. Maintain oversight on high-value contracts and strategic partnerships, and assume relationship management responsibilities where appropriate
Reporting and Communication
18. Tracks and reports on team performance against KPIs, providing regular updates to leadership and key stakeholders
19. Work closely with other heads of department to develop a streamlined approach to all our services and strengthen the client journey
Person Specification: Essential Criteria
20. Proven experience in cultivating and maintaining strong income-generating partnerships and relationships
21. Demonstrable experience in sales or income generation ideally within the disability inclusion sector
22. Good interpersonal skills, capacity to build rapport, give feedback and undertake team development discussions
23. Experience in managing sales or business development teams
24. A passion for creating inclusive cultures and using the social model of disability to build and more inclusive society
25. Ability to develop and execute strategic plans, identify growth opportunities, and adapt to changing market dynamics
26. Strong financial literacy and experience in budgeting, financial planning, and revenue generation
27. Strong networking skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, attend industry events and build professional relationships.
28. A collaborative and team-oriented approach to working with colleagues, partners, and external organisations.
29. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and proposals effectively.
30. A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving, exploring new ideas and approaches to achieve organisational objectives.
Desirable Criteria
31. Proficiency in public speaking and delivering presentations, including the ability to showcase the benefits of D&A’s services effectively.
32. Understanding of the legislative environment such as the Equality Act 2010 and other key sector knowledge
33. Understanding of the disabled employees and students in higher education and the barriers faced across these areas
