Application Criteria
* Demonstrate how you meet the essential and desirable criteria on your application form.

* Shortlisting will be based on essential criteria (Section 1); desirable criteria (Section 3) may be applied if necessary.
Essential Criteria – Section 1
* Qualifications/Professional Membership:
o Hold a teaching qualification recognised by the Northern Ireland Teaching Council.
o Hold an honours degree (2:2 or higher) in Biology or Physics or an equivalent.
* Experience:
o Experience teaching Biology or Physics to A-Level (including teaching practice).
o Demonstrated ability to teach KS3 Biology, Chemistry or Physics (including teaching practice).
o Ability to teach an additional science subject to KS4 (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Double Award Science or Single Award Science).
o Experience using digital media/technology to enhance teaching and learning.
* Other:
o Registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up the post.
Essential Criteria – Section 2
* Knowledge:
o Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum.
o Understanding of Safeguarding and Child Protection policy/practice.
o Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
o Knowledge of teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
o Knowledge of IT systems such as digital classroom tools and mobile technologies.
o Knowledge of current assessment methods.
* Skills/Abilities:
o Effective teaching and classroom management.
o Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment.
o Collaborative engagement with pupils, colleagues, parents and the wider community.
o Teamwork and motivation of self and others.
* Values / Identification with School Ethos:
o Evidence that your experience reflects the school's values/ethos.
Desirable Criteria – Section 3
* Hold an honours degree 2:1 or equivalent.
* Hold a grade A*–C in Biology or Physics at A-Level or equivalent.
* Experience contributing to extracurricular programmes (Sport, Drama or music).
* Experience supporting and challenging all ability levels, including special educational needs.
* Experience monitoring pupil progress, target setting and intervention.
Professional Duties of a Teacher (Key Responsibilities)
* Plan and prepare courses and lessons.
* Teach pupils according to their needs, including setting and marking work.
* Assess, record and report on pupil development, progress and attainment.
* Promote well‑being and progress of individual pupils and each group.
* Provide advice and guidance to pupils on education, social matters and future careers.
* Maintain records and reports on pupils' personal and social needs.
* Communicate and consult with parents and external parties as required.
* Participate in meetings relating to curriculum and school organisation.
* Provide oral and written assessments and reports.
* Participate in staff development and performance review schemes.
* Review and refine teaching methods and programmes.
* Advise on preparation and development of courses of study and teaching materials.
* Maintain discipline and safety, safeguarding pupils in school premises and authorised activities elsewhere.
* Participate in curriculum and pastoral meetings.
* Assist in preparing pupils for public examinations and supervise examinations.
* Contribute to selection and development of other teachers and coordinate teacher duties.
* Administer and support staff tasks and material management.
* Attend assemblies and register pupil attendance.
* Adhere to working day and hour requirements of the full‑time schedule.
Disclosure of Criminal Background
The Education Authority will undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background if the role involves regulated activity. Applicants will be required to bear the cost of the certificate.
