Overview
This is a full‑time post with on calls for a fixed term period of 12 months initially. Sessions are held at Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals, with the role predominantly based at Royal Blackburn Hospital. The post is ward based with opportunity every week to attend clinics and theatres.
Duties and responsibilities
Procedures include elective and trauma admissions. You will share the day to day management of pre‑ and post‑operative trauma as well as elective patients, with support from senior colleagues. The on‑call duties are on a full shift system comprising FY2s, JCFs and CT 1–2s. The Trust operates an out‑of‑hours on‑call service that incorporates all surgical specialties, and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in this.
All subspecialties within Orthopaedics are represented apart from spinal surgery, providing exposure to a varied case mix. We are supported by an Orthogeriatric team and Trauma Co‑ordinators.
The 2 main hospitals in East Lancashire NHS Hospitals Trust are Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. The department is supported by the following medical staff:

* 4 FY1 trainees
* 6 Advanced Clinical Practitioners
The post is classed as non-training grade, but the department is fully committed to providing an equivalent level of training to the post holder with a named clinical supervisor and regular appraisals. There is a strong opportunity to be involved in departmental audit and research projects. You will gain excellent clinical experience and have the opportunity to further your skills and attend theatres and clinics including fracture clinics.
