Director of Artificial Intelligence (Hands on) – Banking - Contract

Empiric are partnering with a global bank to hire a Director of Artificial Intelligence (Hands on) to design, deliver, and scale production-grade AI systems across enterprise use cases.
This is a hands-on leadership role — not pure strategy. You'll stay close to the tech while owning delivery across multiple teams and workstreams. You'll lead AI solutions end-to-end in production, across data pipelines, models, and enterprise platforms, including large-scale data environments (e.g. BSM). Working closely with senior stakeholders, you'll shape architecture, drive adoption, and deliver real outcomes.
Ideal for someone who has deployed AI systems at scale in complex or regulated environments.

Key Skills
* Candidates must be able to demonstrate recent hands-on involvement in building or deploying AI/ML or GenAI systems.
* Recent hands-on experience building and deploying AI/ML or GenAI systems into production
* Hands-on experience with Generative AI and LLMs, including selecting models for real-world use cases
* Experience delivering AI solutions within regulated environments (banking/financial services preferred)
* Proven ability to lead engineering teams and and own delivery across multiple workstreams
* Strong understanding of data platforms, cloud, and large-scale enterprise systems
* Experience with agentic workflows, orchestration patterns, or advanced AI architectures
* Familiarity with modern engineering practices (MLOps, DevOps, automated SDLC)
