The Planning Manager role
As Planning Manager, you will lead the planning and project controls function for a £100 million + landmark programme, ensuring robust scheduling, accurate reporting, and effective stakeholder engagement. Your role is pivotal in aligning project delivery with business objectives and driving innovation in planning practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Management: Develop, maintain, and manage all programmes and production control deliverables across the project lifecycle.
2. Detailed Planning Outputs: Prepare comprehensive phasing diagrams, logistics plans, S-curves, resource histograms, and plant schedules.
3. Project Controls: Implement robust controls, including forecasting, early warning systems, and performance monitoring.
4. Stakeholder Communication: Clearly articulate the planning roadmap and performance measures to project teams, clients, and supply chain partners.
5. Challenge & Assurance: Question and validate project plans to ensure compliance with company, regional, and project targets.
6. Pre-Contract & Bid Support: Contribute to tender strategies, pre-contract planning, and bid submissions.
7. Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and mentor planning staff, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
8. Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to Health & Safety standards and company management systems.
9. Innovation: Drive planning and project control innovations, including BIM 4D integration and digital tools.
Your Profile
Essential Skills & Experience:
10. Strong knowledge of Powerproject planning software.
11. Extensive experience managing planning on large, complex, multi-million-pound projects.
12. Solid understanding of construction methods and planning from first principles.
Desirable Skills:
13. Experience with Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
14. Familiarity with BIM 4D techniques.
15. Good experience in and understanding of Digital/4D planning would be advantageous
16. Knowledge of Asta Powerproject, Primavera P6
17. An ability to manage and develop less experienced planners
Additional Attributes:
18. Proven track record in pre-contract planning and bid contributions.
19. Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
20. Passion for innovation and driving planning initiatives.
21. Experience in industrial, infrastructure, or healthcare sectors is highly advantageous.
