An exciting 9-month internal secondment opportunity (ends July 10th 2026) for a Band 6 Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our innovative Paediatric Dermatology service in Specialist Outpatients, St Thomas Hospital.
This role involves leading and supporting nurse-led clinics, clinicians, initiating and managing treatment plans and providing expert clinical care to children and young people with complex dermatological conditions.
You will provide specialist advice and support to ward areas and wider clinical teams, ensuring holistic care across inpatient and outpatient settings. The successful applicant will have strong leadership and communication skills and act as a positive role model to junior staff.
Part of the role is supporting and educating junior staff and students, education, service development and quality improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice, running nurse-led paediatric dermatology clinics.
Perform detailed clinical assessments of paediatric patients with dermatological conditions, initiate and manage treatment plans, including starting new medications under agreed protocols. Monitor patient response to treatments and adjust plans as necessary.
Initiate systemic and topical dermatological medications, including immunosuppressants, biologics and other specialised therapies as per guidelines. Arrange and review relevant blood tests and follow ups to ensure patient safety.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, coordinate clinic appointments, follow-ups and referrals efficiently.
The successful candidate will support the CNS team in the smooth running of general paediatric dermatology nurse led clinics and help maintain a safe working environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning and provision of specialist nursing advice and carries out specialist nursing procedures. The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other staff, students and may undertake research, lead clinical audits in own specialist area. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.
The position requires the post holder to support junior colleagues, mentor students and to be a supportive role model at all times.

Clinical
1. Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
2. Ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.

11. Identify and raise awareness of the educational needs of patients and carers and implement appropriate education programmes
12. Support and participate in education and training programmes and develop training packages as required.
Management and Leadership
13. Provide a leadership role model and demonstrate specialist knowledge and high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice when necessary.
14. Develop the role according to patients changing needs and research findings, within the resources available.
15. Maintain accurate records of the clinical service and ensuring that confidentiality of information is adhered to.

Education
Essential criteria
16. BSC or equivalent
17. Mentorship qualification
18. Evidence of ongoing professional development, CPD
19. Evidence of professional/ clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist training
20. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
Desirable criteria
21. Dermatology Course, Post registration qualification in (appropriate area of speciality)
22. Leadership course passport to management, People Manager Programme
Experience

23. Previous post registration experience in dermatology, paediatric or adult
24. Experienced and competent in the management of patients with dermatology skin conditions
25. Experience of teaching/ assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.
