The role

Newport County AFC is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Lead Academy Physiotherapist to lead the delivery of medical and performance support services across the Academy. This role is central to the development, well‑being, and long‑term athletic progression of academy players, ensuring best‑in‑class physiotherapy provision aligned with the club’s performance philosophy and the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).

The successful candidate will lead the Academy Performance Support Department, working closely with multidisciplinary team (MDT) colleagues including sports science, medicine, nutrition, coaching staff, and senior leadership to ensure a fully integrated and player‑centred approach.

About You

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Working towards MSc in Sports Science, Sports Performance Analysis, or related discipline
  • FA Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (or equivalent/higher qualification, where applicable)

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong clinical knowledge and extensive experience in physiotherapy within sport or performance environments
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • A collaborative, team‑oriented approach
  • Experience working within elite academy or professional football environments
  • Understanding of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) framework
  • Experience working with youth or developing professional athletes
  • Ability to travel across training and matchday venues
