Job Title: Engineering Team Leader (Shift-Based)

Job Purpose
To lead a team of engineers in maintaining and improving production equipment and processes, ensuring compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and quality standards. The role involves proactive use of the SAP PPM system, deputising for the Engineering Shift Manager, and supporting production teams with technical advice.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise a team of mechanical, electrical, multiskilled, and semi-skilled engineers.
* Deputise for the Engineering Shift Manager during absences.
* Maintain strong working relationships with production management and operators.
* Use SAP PPM system to record engineering labour and parts usage.
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH.
* Support training and assessment of staff on machine operation.
* Collaborate with visiting engineers to implement improvements.
* Ensure accurate documentation of equipment maintenance and modifications.
* Prioritise and assign work duties in the absence of senior managers.
* Escalate issues affecting factory efficiency to relevant managers.
* Ensure safe working practices, use of PPE, and proper work permit procedures.
* Promote positive working behaviour and maintain a clean, organised workspace (5S standards).
* Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels in stores.
* Conduct checks on temperature monitoring systems.
* Promote efficient use of utilities and minimise waste.
* Ensure compliance with environmental permit conditions.
Working Conditions
* Indoor work environment with varying light and heat conditions.
* Exposure to greasy/dirty substances and proximity to poultry entrails and meat.
* Extensive periods on foot and occasional work at heights.
Essential Requirements
* Time/Skill-Served Fitter with minimum 4 years of industrial experience.
* Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
* Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
* IT literate.
* Strong decision-making and time management skills.
* Initiative and leadership capability.
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Previous supervisory experience.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience with poultry processing machinery.
* Background in food processing industry.
* Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics.
