NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are invited from suitably experienced and qualified Clinical Physiologists for the post of Head of Service, Clinical Physiology hosted in the Department of Medical Physics and Bio-Engineering at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join our innovative and dedicated team and we are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a can-do attitude to lead and continue to develop the existing services. Responsibilities of the post, which is available due to retirement, include professional leadership of physiological sciences and support of outreach services across a wide geographical region.

You should hold a 1st or 2nd class higher degree (MSc or Masters or PhD) in Physiology although suitably equivalent knowledge, training and significant experience of clinical physiology obtained through service delivery and development may be acceptable. Registration with appropriate professional bodies (eg. HCPC, BSE, IBHRE etc.) is essential along with significant post-qualification clinical practice.

Professional and strategic leadership are a significant part of the post so highly developed communications, management and influencing skills will be needed alongside clinical / technical and financial skills; evidence of a proven track record of staff and financial management and leadership and service development is essential. Candidates must hold a full UK driving licence.

The post is part time (22.5 hours a week), directly line manages seven staff within a wider service of 38 whole time equivalents. Additional hours at the appropriate banded rate for service delivery or leadership may be available up to full time (37 hours), subject to separate recruitment arrangement and dependent on specialism.

Raigmore Hospital is the principal acute general hospital serving the population of NHS Highland. The catchment area is geographically the largest and most northerly of any Health Board in mainland Britain. In addition, tertiary services are provided to patients from NHS Western Isles and western parts of NHS Grampian, making the total catchment population approximately 400,000. Raigmore is a modern, well-equipped, general hospital, and its relative geographical isolation demands higher levels of services than in most hospitals of comparable size.

Inverness is a vibrant city offering a range of entertainment, restaurants and shops, as well as easy access to the outdoor environment of the Scottish Highlands including mountains, beaches, islands, lochs and glens; with unparalleled opportunities for walking, cycling, sailing, climbing and skiing or just to enjoy the great outdoors.
