Vanrath are recruiting for a Band 3 Residential Support Worker on behalf of a large public sector company in Belfast on a temporary basis.
What's in it for you?

* 7:30am to 20:30pm, 7:30am to 14:00pm, 13:30am to 21:00opm OR Wakened Night Duty 20:30pm to 07:30am

About your next employer
The Residential Support Worker will be assisting in the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the provision of care of children, with a severe learning disability and associated challenging behaviour and medical needs within various Children's locations. This post will require the post holder to work a rota that covers 24 hrs per day that is open all year round, this includes working evenings and weekends, and night duty, as is appropriate.

What you'll do

* Comply with all policies, procedures, standards and guidelines of relevant professional body, for conduct and professional practice.
* Deliver safe, compassionate and effective care to the young people.
* Support them in all aspects of personal care.
* Observe young people's behaviour recording and responding to any change of mood or feeling unwell and attend to same, documenting and reporting action taken.
* Support young people on outings either individually or in groups, as and when required and to support the integration of young people into the local community.
* Participate in the team approach to the young people's care/support by contributing and attending staff meetings, group discussions and formal supervision as required to ensure that good communication and co-operation is kept to a high standard at all times.
* Complete medication training and administer creams, lotions and PRN medication in line with the guidance for the administration of medication.
* Staff will be required to work a rota that covers 24 hrs per day that is open all year round, this includes working evenings and weekends, and night duty, as is appropriate.
* Ensure all emergencies, untoward events and complaints are acted upon and processed in accordance with the Trust Policy and Procedures.
* Provide updates on the young people's placement as necessary with family members, community social work staff, nurses, doctors, psychologist, or other professionals as appropriate in the interests of young people.
* Work within the young people's care plans, PBS plans and risk assessments ensuring that young person's social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs are met and meets legislative requirements.
* Take responsibility for delegated roles such as health & safety, menu planning, activities, first aid, Fire Safety, Car up keep etc. as agreed with your line manager.
* Follow the services Finance procedures.
* Ensure that adequate Health & Safety measures are maintained in accordance with the Trust's policy, thus ensuring the health and safety and welfare of the young people is paramount at all times.
* Undertake the direct care of children and young people, which involves ensuring that their social, emotional, health, educational, spiritual and physical needs are met as fully as possible. Direct care will include support with personal care and other practical tasks such as cooking and serving food on occasions and assisting children with the purchase of clothing.
* Undertake responsibilities in relation to specific young people and seeks to ensure that they develop social and life skills to help them transition into adulthood.



About you
Essential:
Currently hold (if previously registered must be reregistered before commencement of post the new registration timeframe does not apply) or be eligible for registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council within 3 months of taking up the post.
AND
5 GCSE including English or equivalent and a Minimum of 1 years' experience of working with experience equivalent to 16 hours per week in a in a health and social care role
OR
An NVQ Level 2 or above in Health and social care or equivalent and a Minimum of 1 years' experience of working experience equivalent to 16 hours per week in a in a health and social care role
Desirable:
Previous experience of working with children with learning disabilities and behaviours of concern in a residential / hospital or community setting.
Have knowledge of The Children's Homes Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 and the Minimum Standards for Children's Homes Version 2 2019 and how it applies to working in a regulated service.
