Management Accountant
* Location: NE12
* Salary: Negotiable depending on experience
* Job Type: Permanent, Part-Time (hours negotiable)
We are recruiting on behalf of a Newcastle-based construction company seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join their team in a key standalone role. This position involves supporting the financial management of multiple projects and ensuring accurate reporting across all stages. You will work closely with the Managing Director, Office Manager, and operational team, playing a vital role in maintaining financial control, managing cash flow, and supporting project profitability.
Day-to-day of the role:
Weekly Duties:
* Manage petty cash and post transactions within accounting systems.
* Process debit card payments and maintain accurate financial records.
* Monitor daily bank activity, post entries, and complete reconciliations.
* Process CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) invoices using industry systems (e.g., Eque2) and transfer to accounting software.
* Post administrative and supplier invoices, including direct debits.
* Process weekly site staff payroll, including HMRC RTI submissions.
* Monitor incoming application payments via construction systems and chase overdue payments/payless notices.
* Liaise with management to track applications, valuations, and expected payments.
* Update contract values and maintain cost/value reconciliation data.
* Review recruitment agency (labour supply) invoices and liaise with HR on discrepancies.
* Provide ad hoc financial support to management and project teams.
Monthly Duties:
* Reconcile supplier statements and manage subcontractor and supplier payment runs (including CIS deductions).
* Prepare cash flow forecasts in line with project payment schedules.
* Maintain and update the fixed asset register.
* Complete PAYE submissions and payments to HMRC.
* Prepare and submit CIS returns, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
* Produce monthly management accounts, including Work in Progress (WIP), Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR), and Retentions tracking and reconciliation.
* Process monthly supplier and subcontractor invoices.
* Support monthly applications for payment and provide financial data to management.
* Monitor and chase outstanding project retentions.
* Process payroll for monthly staff.
Quarterly Duties:
* Process and manage business overheads such as premises rent and insurance.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring compliance with Making Tax Digital (MTD) and construction-specific rules (e.g., Domestic Reverse Charge where applicable).
Annual Duties:
* Prepare and submit CITB Levy return.
* Support financial year-end processes, including P11Ds and audit preparation.
* Maintain accounting system integrity, including audit trail clear downs.
* Manage document retention, archiving, and compliance with record-keeping requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in a finance role, construction-based desirable but not essential.
* Experience working with accounting and construction software (e.g., Sage, Eque2, or similar).
* Knowledge of WIP, CVR, and project-based financial reporting.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
