The role:

An opportunity has arisen to join the Phlebotomy Service covering inpatient wards within the Clyde Sector.

The post holder will work as part of a team providing a venepuncture service for all specialities within both RAH and IRH sites. You will work to ensure target times are met and adhered to for the prompt delivery of blood samples to the laboratories.

Ability and willingness to travel between both RAH and IRH sites frequently is essential for this post.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Part‑time

There are 1 x 15hr and 1 x 20hr posts available, though variable hours may be considered.

Base location – Royal Alexandra Hospital

Shift Pattern – Monday to Sunday 5‑hour shifts


Key responsibilities:

* Collect blood samples via venepuncture as requested by medical staff.
* Ensure accurate cross‑matching, correct patient identification and proper labelling of all samples and documentation.
* Follow all relevant procedures and divisional policies, including infection control, health and safety and incident reporting.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
* Communicate effectively with phlebotomy team leaders and ward clinical staff throughout the day.
* Provide cover for colleagues during leave or sickness.


Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

* The post holder will be educated to standard grade level or have an equivalent level of experience.
* The post holder will possess excellent communication, team‑working and time management skills.
* Reliability and self‑motivation.
