Over the past year we have developed our board with a greater wealth of experience and expertise that may come from knowledge outside of dodgeball to help us transition into the next stage of our evolution. It is these informed and expert voices that will allow us to progress our ambitions and ensure strong oversight of the sport in the UK.
The makeup of our board has expanded over the past year with Independent Directors with skills in commercial, events, safeguarding and legal as well as regional representation from within the sport and together the appointed and elected individuals will work together to steer British dodgeball’s strategic direction moving forward.
British Dodgeball is seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious and forward-thinking individual with experience in Governance and/or Risk.
The role of Independent Governance & Risk is a voluntary role with all reasonable travel and subsistence expenses fully reimbursed.
Time commitment: Approximately 2-3 days per month, typically 5-6 board meetings per year.
Term: 3 years (maximum of 2 terms)
Location: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales
ROLE SUMMARY - INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR GOVERNANCE & RISK
- Deep understanding of corporate governance principles
- Professional executive experience in governance, risk management, compliance, or audit
- Experience in identifying emerging threats and proven ability to define and monitor risk appetite frameworks with long-term strategic goals
- Competency in scrutinising the robustness of internal control systems and risk assurance mechanisms
- An understanding of regulatory, funding, and compliance pressures affecting sports bodies.
- Provide ongoing expertise and guidance to the CEO with regard to the British Dodgeball Risk Register and Risk Management
- Strong communicator and collaborator with high integrity, strong ethics and attention to detail
- Comfortable in a small business environment and evolving priorities
- An understanding of the UK’s sporting landscape and the governance standards that exist to act as a benchmark.
GENERAL BOARD DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively engage in a collective responsibility approach to the strategic oversight and management of British Dodgeball
- Execute the responsibilities of a Company Director in accordance with The Companies Act (2006) and all other relevant legislation
- Ensure the effective implementation of Board decisions holding the CEO and Executive team accountable for clear objectives and performance against agreed goals
- Safeguard the interests of the membership and stakeholders of the organisation
- Engage in the management of organisational risk and oversight of financial sustainability
- Act with discretion in respect of any sensitive, confidential, or commercial information
- Promote equality of opportunity in participation
- Act as an ambassador for British Dodgeball
- Participate in any relevant Board Sub-committees or Working groups
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Board
