We have a new opportunity for a Legal Compliance Manager to join our Legal & Governance team on a fixed-term basis of 12 months. You will be an experienced compliance professional and a creative and pragmatic problem solver with the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders. You will be able to translate and simplify complex regulatory requirements into effective guidance and optimized processes.
About the role:
You'll work closely with our Senior Legal Compliance Manager to support the development, implementation, maintenance, and management of a broad compliance framework across the organization.
You will lead key initiatives in Data Protection, Access and Benefit Sharing, National Security & Investment, Trusted Research, and Anti-Fraud, Bribery, and Corruption.
Your responsibilities include project management, cross-team collaboration, identifying gaps, influencing decisions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing:
* Project managing and implementing compliance initiatives, supporting the design of pragmatic, risk-based solutions to minimize risk and support the Institute's strategy.
* Assessing the effectiveness of internal controls and assurance mechanisms to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
* Providing guidance and training to stakeholders at all levels on compliance matters.
* Monitoring compliance, analyzing trends, conducting root cause analyses, and supporting remedial actions.
* Promoting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement, developing optimized processes.
* Conducting horizon scanning and gap analysis for upcoming regulatory changes and working with teams to navigate challenges.
* Deputizing for the SLCM as needed.
* Contributing to wider Legal & Governance activities aligned with organizational objectives.
Essential Skills:
* Degree qualification or equivalent.
* Experience in implementing compliance requirements in complex organizations, including gap and trend analysis.
* Excellent communication and reporting skills.
* Strong attention to detail.
* Proficiency in IT tools, including Excel.
* Ability to recognize risks and seek advice appropriately.
* Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
* Positive, flexible attitude with a 'can-do' approach.
* Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage complex processes.
* Enthusiasm for scientific research and the Institute's mission.
About Us:
The Legal team within Legal & Governance handles agreements related to research collaborations, projects, materials transfers, data protection, confidentiality, and legal queries.
Other Information:
* Salary: £53,000 to £64,000
* Flexible hybrid working (minimum 2 days in-office)
* Full-time and part-time applications considered
