Financial Controller Job in Belfast
Staffline Recruitment Ireland is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our team in Belfast, Northern Ireland. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional with strong experience in financial control, management accounts, budgeting, forecasting, commercial finance, financial reporting, team leadership and process improvement.
The successful candidate will lead and manage the finance function and credit control operation for Staffline Recruitment Ireland, ensuring robust financial controls, strong operational performance and strategic financial support across the business. This role is ideal for a commercially focused finance leader who can combine technical accounting expertise with strategic insight, people management and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership and Reporting
6. Lead and manage the finance function and credit control team across Staffline Recruitment Ireland
7. Deliver accurate monthly management accounts within seven working days
8. Produce weekly margin reports and KPI reporting with clear insight and recommendations
9. Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes with data-driven analysis
10. Manage group reporting and intercompany transactions, ensuring consistency and compliance
11. Oversee cash flow, working capital and cost control to improve financial efficiency
12. Strengthen internal controls, financial governance and risk management frameworks
Commercial Finance and Strategic Support
13. Provide strategic financial insight to senior leadership across five major divisions
14. Support commercial growth and profitability through pricing analysis, bid support, tender reviews and contract evaluation
15. Influence decision-making with robust financial analysis and commercial recommendations
16. Drive improvements in financial performance across multiple business units
17. Contribute to broader business strategy through accurate forecasting and profitability analysis
Systems, Controls and Process Improvement
18. Manage reporting systems and general ledger platforms including Datarails and Topaz
19. Support the rollout of internal reporting tools and real-time KPI dashboards
20. Champion automation and digitisation of finance processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual administration
21. Maintain finance IT systems, ensuring accuracy, integrity and successful integration with third-party systems
22. Review and improve finance processes, controls and policies to enhance compliance and operational effectiveness
23. Deliver training to team members on finance systems and processes where required
Leadership and Stakeholder Management
24. Lead and performance manage a team of six direct reports, including monthly one-to-one meetings and annual appraisals
25. Drive operational efficiency while maintaining high service and performance standards
26. Work closely with senior management, payroll and IT teams to support wider business objectives
27. Build strong professional relationships with auditors, banks, regulators and other external stakeholders
28. Present financial information clearly and confidently to senior leadership teams
Compliance and Governance
29. Oversee statutory financial compliance, audits and tax obligations including VAT returns and PAYE payments
30. Ensure alignment with internal audit requirements, regulatory standards and company policies
31. Manage procurement-related reviews, payment controls and associated governance processes
32. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure reporting deadlines are consistently achieved
About You
To be successful in this Financial Controller job in Belfast, you should have:
33. A professional accounting qualification
34. At least 5 years' post-qualification experience
35. Proven experience in a senior finance role within a large organisation
36. Experience in recruitment, professional services or a similarly fast-paced commercial environment would be advantageous
37. Strong technical knowledge of accounting, budgeting, forecasting, management accounts and financial controls
38. Experience implementing financial systems and leading process automation projects
39. Advanced Excel and data analysis skills
40. Strong leadership and people management experience, including managing change and restructuring
41. The ability to provide strategic insight and commercial support to senior stakeholders
42. Excellent communication and presentation skills
43. A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and commitment to compliance
