The role
Accounts Assistant Manager Cheltenham Clark Wood are currently working with a leading independent chartered accountancy and business advisory firm who are looking to recruit an Assistant Manager to join their expanding team in Gloucestershire. This is an excellent opportunity to join a firm with a strong reputation for delivering accountancy and advisory services to a diverse client base. The successful candidate will take a leading role in managing a varied portfolio of clients, supporting the preparation and review of annual accounts and business tax computations. You will also play a key role in delivering proactive advisory services, including remuneration planning, profit forecasting, capital taxes, and VAT advisory work, while identifying opportunities to enhance client outcomes through value-added advice. In addition, you will supervise and support junior members of the team, reviewing their work and providing technical guidance and mentoring. You will build and maintain strong client relationships, attend client meetings and industry events, and support the wider team in delivering a high standard of service across all assignments. The ideal candidate will be ACA or ACCA qualified with experience within the agricultural or rural business sector. You will have strong technical accounting and tax knowledge, excellent client relationship skills, and the ability to manage a portfolio of work while supporting the development of junior staff. Duties & Responsibilities: • Managing a portfolio of clients • Reviewing and supporting the preparation of annual accounts and business tax computations • Delivering advisory services including remuneration planning and profit forecasting • Providing guidance on capital taxes, VAT, and wider tax planning matters • Identifying opportunities to add value through proactive advisory work • Supervising and reviewing the work of junior team members • Providing mentoring and technical support to developing staff • Building and maintaining strong client relationships • Attending client meetings and representing the firm at industry events • Supporting the delivery of high-quality compliance and advisory services • Ensuring work is completed accurately and within deadlines Skills: • ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent) • Experience within the agricultural or rural business sector • Strong accounts preparation and business tax experience • Knowledge of capital taxes, VAT and advisory work • Experience supervising or reviewing junior staff work • Excellent communication and client relationship skills • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Proficient in Excel, Xero and Sage • Strong organisational and workload management skills • Commercially aware and proactive approach • Ability to manage a portfolio and support team development Salary & Benefits: • Competitive salary dependent on experience and qualifications • Profit share scheme • 25–28 days annual leave plus option to purchase up to 30 days • Clear progression structure within a specialist team • Life assurance (6x annual salary) • Health and wellbeing benefits including online GP access, EAP, and mental health support • Discounted gym membership • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave • Regular firm-wide and team social events For more information, please contact Eleanor Snow at Clark Wood on 07375 801311 or email eleanor@clark-wood.co.uk We also offer a £500 referral bonus for any successful introductions.
