This position is to replace our ward manager who is advancing in their career.
Jade Ward is a facility for Children and Adolescents with Learning Disabilities requiring hospital treatment and a discharge plan to facilitate their return to the community with appropriate support and care. The ward benefits from an established nursing and care assistant team, a full multidisciplinary team, and its own school and teaching staff.
This role is vital to our retention strategy, ensuring visible management and supervision of the ward team and supporting a clear career structure for succession planning.
We consider both full-time and part-time applicants, with a minimum of 30 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
1. Manage daily operations of the unit, including physical, procedural, and relational security standards.
2. Oversee the direct care team, including Qualified Nurses (Staff Nurses and Deputy Managers), Nursing Associates, Assistant Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants, and Support Staff.
3. Drive the ongoing development of the unit based on evidence-based practice, current research, and national guidance.

Job responsibilities
* Ensure comprehensive treatment packages from admission to discharge for service users.
* Support and develop user involvement in care and treatment.
* Oversee patient observations, ensuring accurate recording and sharing information with the MDT.
* Apply positive behavioral support models and challenge restrictive practices, promoting low arousal and non-aversive techniques.
* Manage the unit's daily operations, including security standards.
* Lead the direct care team, including nurses, nursing associates, and support staff.
* Develop the unit in line with evidence-based practice, research, and guidelines.
* Motivate staff, encouraging innovation and clinical effectiveness.
* Recognize personal limits and seek appropriate support and supervision.
* Promote a positive, open culture within the clinical setting and across services.
* Maintain physical and procedural security in line with policies.
* Manage security equipment safely and effectively.
* Contribute to clinical supervision for nursing staff.
* Manage resources within the financial framework.
* Ensure compliance with CQC requirements in an inpatient setting.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Learning Disability or Mental Health Nursing registration with the NMC.
* Management qualification or willingness to pursue one.
Experience
* Significant experience in a forensic setting.
* Experience managing an inpatient team.
Other
* Physical ability and willingness to participate in violence and aggression management, including physical interventions.
* Willingness to travel as necessary for the role.
Knowledge
* Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS).
* Knowledge of national drivers in Learning Disability Care.
* Understanding of physical, procedural, and relational security.
Personal Attributes
* Ability to lead and motivate teams effectively.
