The Workshop Machinist is a hands-on role within the field of mechanical engineering, working either on-site or within our workshop. The role is responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical work while ensuring full compliance with company policies on health & safety, quality assurance, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other workshop tools
Work from engineering drawings and project instructions
Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE
Use and store hazardous substances safely (COSHH compliance)
Complete on-site or workshop-based tasks as directed
Carry out only tasks within your valid certifications
Support with other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Essential:
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or Machining
Proven experience in a similar machinist or mechanical fitter role
Competent in the use of manual machines and tools
Valid certification for lifting equipment and abrasive wheels
Up-to-date H&S training (CSCS or CCNSG)
Own transport for travel to/from our Dover workshop
Desirable:
Experience in industrial or heavy engineering environments
Welding or fabrication knowledge
Ability to read CAD drawings
Forklift or overhead crane certification
Pay & Overtime:
£17.77 per hour
Overtime (when required):
Weekdays after 6 PM: 1.5x
Saturdays: 1.5x
Sundays: 2x
