An established and fast-growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to join their commercial and procurement team in Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated procurement professional with at least 2 years' buying experience to play a key role in supporting major construction and infrastructure projects across London and the South East.
The business delivers complex groundworks, RC frame, infrastructure and civil engineering schemes, working on high‑profile developments with a strong reputation for quality, safety and delivery excellence.
The role reporting into the Procurement Manager / Commercial Team, the Buyer will be responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with suppliers, managing purchase orders and ensuring projects are supplied efficiently and cost‑effectively.
Key responsibilities include:
* Procuring construction materials, plant and subcontract services
* Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
* Negotiating prices, lead times and supply agreements
* Monitoring market trends and supplier performance
* Raising and managing purchase orders
* Ensuring materials are delivered on time and within budget
* Working closely with site teams, commercial teams and suppliers
* Supporting cost‑saving initiatives across projects
* Maintaining accurate procurement records and documentation
Requirements
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a Buyer / Procurement role
* Experience within construction, civil engineering or groundworks preferred
* Strong negotiation and communication skills
* Commercially aware with excellent attention to detail
* Ability to manage multiple suppliers and deadlines
* Proficient with Microsoft Office and procurement systems
* Full UK driving licence preferred
