About Us
Nero Energy are a leading renewable energy and building performance consultancy dedicated to helping organisations transition to low-carbon, energy-efficient operations. We specialise in delivering integrated solutions including heat pump systems, solar photovoltaic (PV) installations, and fabric energy efficiency upgrades for clients across the education and commercial sectors. Our work supports sustainability targets, reduces energy costs, and enhances comfort and performance in schools, universities, offices, and public buildings.
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to oversee the planning, co-ordination, and delivery of retrofit and renewable energy projects. The role will focus on managing multi-technology decarbonisation projects, primarily the installation of air source and ground source heat pumps, solar PV, and fabric improvement measures (insulation, glazing, draft proofing). This is a client-facing role requiring strong technical, organisational, and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Project Management: Lead the end-to-end delivery of retrofit and renewable energy projects in schools, commercial buildings, and public sector estates.
* Client Liaison: Act as the main point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication, expectation setting, and satisfaction throughout project delivery.
* Technical Oversight: Co-ordinate surveys, design approvals, planning applications, and compliance documentation (Building control, DNO, MCS).
* Team Co-ordination: Work with in-house engineers, subcontractors, energy assessors, and fabric specialists to ensure timely and high-quality project outcomes.
* Procurement & Scheduling: Manage procurement of materials and services, co-ordinate site access, and develop detailed project delivery schedules.
* Budget & Risk Management: Track project budgets, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.
* Health, Safety & Compliance: Ensure all projects comply with relevant health and safety legislation, building regulations, and industry standards
* Reporting: Produce regular internal and client-facing progress reports, ensuring clear documentation of milestones, variations, and performance metrics.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
* 2+ years of project management experience in construction, building services, or renewable energy sectors.
* Ideally a proven track record delivering heat pump and solar PV installations (or similar technologies)
* Experience managing fabric upgrade works (insulation, window replacement, ventilation).
* Familiarity with compliance standards such as MCS, PAS 2035, building control, and planning regulations.
* Excellent stakeholder management, scheduling, and team coordination skills.
* Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and contracts.
* Proficient with MS Office and project management tools (MS Project, Asana, or equivalent).
* Full UK driving licence (or equivalent).
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree or HND in Renewable Energy, Building Services, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
* Recognised project management certification (e.g., Prince2, APM, PMP).
* Understanding of government funding mechanisms (e.g., Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, SALIX, SHDF).
* Experience working in live school environments or public sector procurement frameworks.
What We Offer
* Meaningful work accelerating the decarbonisation of public and commercial buildings.
* A collaborative and supportive company culture.
* Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
* Opportunities for training and development in retrofit and low-carbon technologies.
* Competitive salary, access to a vehicle, mileage or car allowance, and pension scheme.
