Offer description

Please note UK NMC PIN number required for this post.

Do you consider caring with compassion fundamental to your role?

Are you looking for a new career path in one of the most picturesque parts of the country?

Then South Lakes Birth Centre is just the place for you, offering the beautiful Lake District on your doorstep and within easy reaching distance of the City of Lancaster, with excellent transport links to the main cities in the UK.

Our trust provides a preceptorship programme for newly qualified Band 5 midwives, and we are also recruiting experienced Band 6 Midwives to join our dynamic, dedicated, and forward-thinking professional team. The team covers a wide geographical area with both rural and urban communities. This is a rotational post; therefore, a UK driving licence is required to meet the needs of the service.

Provide maternity care to women and birthing people within an obstetric unit and the local community setting. South Lakes Birth Centre is located within Furness General Hospital in Barrow-in-Furness and is our most recent purpose-built maternity unit. The Birth Centre includes a Maternity Triage, Day Assessment Unit, two Maternity Theatres, and the Community Midwifery Offices.

There is a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit, providing care to 4 Neonates. For staff training, there is a dedicated simulation suite for multidisciplinary training for midwives, doctors, anaesthetists, and paediatric staff.

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various consultant-led services. WGH provides general hospital services, an Urgent Treatment Centre, and can handle non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three hospitals provide planned care, including outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day case, and inpatient surgery. Additionally, a range of outreach services and diagnostics are available across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are delivered in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP practices, community hospitals, and main hospitals. Our goal is to work with individuals to help them remain independent, improve their health, and manage their conditions through high-quality care, advice, and support.
