We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist residential childcare provider for a Waking Night Residential Support Worker to join their dedicated team. This is a permanent, part-time opportunity working three nights per week, supporting vulnerable children and young people in a therapeutic residential setting.
Salary £12.85 £13.94 per hour (depending on qualifications and experience)
About the Role
As a Waking Night Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and emotional support of children throughout the night. You will remain awake and alert during your shift, maintaining a calm, secure, and nurturing environment.
You will be part of a therapeutic care model, supporting children with social, emotional, and behavioural needs, helping them feel safe, settled, and cared for during the night.
Key Responsibilities Remain awake throughout the night to ensure the safety and security of the home
Carry out regular checks on children in line with care plans
Provide emotional reassurance and support if children wake or become distressed
Assist with night-time routines, helping children settle and maintain healthy sleep patterns
Undertake domestic duties (cleaning, laundry, stock checks) to maintain a homely environment
Support the administration of medication where required (following training)
Maintain accurate and timely records and reports using digital systems
Conduct health and safety and security checks across the property
Work collaboratively with the wider team, contributing to handover reports and care planning
About You We are looking for individuals who are:
Compassionate, resilient, and emotionally intelligent
Able to work independently during night shifts
Confident supporting children with complex needs and behaviours
Strong communicators with good written and IT skills
Organised, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure
Essential:
Awareness of residential childcare or similar care environments
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Ability to work waking night shifts consistently
Desirable:
Previous experience in a residential childrens home or similar setting
Relevant Level 3 qualification in childcare (or willingness to work towards)
