POST: West Midlands Projects Manager

LOCATION: BAYC, Pershore Rd, Birmingham (with some travel)

SALARY: £35,000 - £37,000k dependent on experience – pro-rataed

HOURS: Part time: 3.5 days per week (26hpw)

Reports to: Director of Services

Direct Reports: 6 staff



About Resources for Autism (RfA)

Since 1997 when we started as a small playgroup set up by parents dismayed at the lack of provision for their autistic children, Resources for Autism (RfA) has grown into a major deliverer of services and support in London and the West Midlands with a turnover of around £2.5m per year. Our mission is to support and enable autistic people to live happy and fulfilling lives. We want to change society’s attitude to autism whilst also providing essential services and enriching opportunities to autistic people. Our Services

All of our services across children and adults and parent/carers, mirror the wider organisational mission of providing safe, fun and meaningful support that enables personal development. We provide this support by ensuring our staff are skilfully trained, meet the highest safeguarding expectations and are encouraged to develop and upskill throughout their career with Resources for Autism.

The Role

To coordinate and oversee a portfolio of projects and adult groups in the West Midlands, ensuring high-quality delivery, strong team support, and positive outcomes for autistic individuals and their families. The role combines leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on problem-solving to maintain service excellence and sustainability.

Project Oversight & Delivery – this may be subject to change as projects develop or finish dependent on funding.

Triple F Project: Support and manage a small team delivering group-based support (in-person and virtual) for parents/carers of autistic children in Birmingham and Solihull. Focus on empowerment and improved outcomes for families. Part of a 3 year project.

Alternative Offer: Oversee a team providing phone, online, and in-person support for families referred via BSOL MH Trust, addressing challenging behaviours and family stress. Currently to be delivered to Spring 2026.

BSOL Adults & Parents/Carers Project: A project and services supporting autistic adults and families with mental health navigation and resilience-building. Includes training delivery for NHS professionals to enhance autism understanding. Currently to be delivered to Summer 2026.

Autism Pathways Project for 14–25’s: Manage the Project Lead to develop and deliver a blended programme for autistic young people, supporting transitions, independence, and informed life choices.

Adult Groups Oversight: Maintain oversight of two established adult groups (higher needs and AuStruck for lower/medium needs). Responsibilities include line management, attendance monitoring, referral flow, cover arrangements, and compliance with policies.

Leadership & Team Management:

· Line manage small project teams (approx. 4–6 staff across projects).

· Provide supervision, guidance, and problem-solving support.

· Ensure staff wellbeing and professional development.



Operational Coordination:

· Monitor referrals, attendance, and engagement across all services.

· Ensure safeguarding, data security, and organisational policies are upheld.

· Manage cover for staff absences and maintain service continuity.

· Build networks and partnerships to strengthen project impact.

· Attendance at local partnership boards as required.



Quality & Impact:

· Track outcomes and contribute to evaluation reports.

· Support continuous improvement and innovation in service delivery.



Strategic Alignment & Growth:

· Ensure all projects align with RfA’s organisational strategy and values.

· Identify opportunities for service development, partnerships, and funding that support organisational growth.

· Contribute to strategic planning discussions and represent RfA in relevant networks.



Core Responsibilities:

· Uphold and adhere to the values of RfA at all time.

· Ensure there is always compliance with RfA’s safeguarding policies and procedures.

· All staff are expected to promote equality in the workplace and in our services.

· Undertake any other duties asked of you that are commensurate with your grade.

Flexible working:

This role may require some occasional out of hours working at weekends or evenings.

Person Specification:

Essential Skills

Experience of managing multiple projects or services in health/social care, charity or community settings.

Strong leadership and line management skills.

Knowledge of autism and neurodiversity-affirming practices.

Qualifications or relevant experience in youth work, education or health & social care

Skills in creating and developing effective and efficient projects and programmes of work.

Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.

Skilled communicator with ability to build relationships across sectors and with team members.

Desired Skills

Experience delivering family or adult support programmes.

Familiarity with education, mental health/health care systems and transition planning.

Lived experience of autism or caring for an autistic person.

Standard Skills

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) adaptable to different populations including: colleagues, external professionals, service users, families, volunteers, donors

Strong organisational and prioritisation skills

Good understanding of Safeguarding

IT skills: proficient with Office 365

Self-starter and able to work independently, using own initiative

Non-judgemental, compassionate

Confidentiality

You will have access to confidential information concerning families and other service users and will be required to maintain confidentiality at all times.
