Reporting to the Process Engineer, a Tube Assembly and Test Technician is required (working early/late shift) to play a key role in the processing, final assembly and testing of X-ray tubes ready for their incorporation into RTT scanning machines. This will involve operation of large vacuum bakeout ovens and vacuum equipment, final assembly processes, X-ray tube testing and high voltage tube conditioning.
Responsibilities
1. Assisting in the vacuum bake-out of X-ray tubes including diagnosis and rectification of vacuum leaks.
2. Post bake-out Tube Activation, application of lead plates, tube assembly completion and set up for testing of X-ray tubes.
3. High Voltage conditioning and testing of X-ray tubes.
4. Supporting tube frame wiring loom build as required.
5. Performing preventative maintenance activities as required on vacuum equipment and high voltage test rigs.
6. Accurate and consistent recording of data including the use of Excel.
7. Use of various plant including vacuum bake-out ovens, conditioning rigs and overhead gantry crane.
8. Provide an on-going contribution to the development/improvement of the above processes and safe working practices.
9. Basic fault finding on X-ray tubes, test equipment and vacuum systems.
10. Raising Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
11. Ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations.
12. Organising and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

24. Ability to write clear and detailed shift hand-over reports.
25. Ability to perform necessary manual handling duties according to safe working practices.
Qualifications
Essential:
26. Previous experience working as a technician (or similar) in a production / laboratory / R&D / hi-tech engineering environment for ~3-4 years or more.
27. Demonstrable experience in operating sophisticated manufacturing / processing / scientific equipment, ideally involving vacuum and high voltage systems.
28. Familiarity with safe working practices and ensuring that others adhere to practices.
Familiarity with the following would be an advantage but is not essential:
29. Production technician experience working on X-rays tubes or similar hi-tech / scientific / medical equipment.
30. Experience of working within a clean room environment.
31. Helium leak checking of vacuum systems/components.
32. Basic maintenance of vacuum systems.
33. Working in accordance with a Quality system.
34. Working in accordance with COSHH regulations.
35. 5S, 6 Sigma Practices.
36. Handling of compressed gas cylinders.
37. Experience in working around/with lifting equipment, e.g., gantry crane.
Knowledge, Training and Qualifications if required:
38. Working in a hi-tech manufacturing or research environment.
39. Technical qualifications in an Engineering or Scientific discipline to ONC/HND level (or significant experience in technical role/s)
