NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. The Role
There are 3 neonatal units within GGC, two providing Level 3 care, which are located at the Royal Hospital for Children and Princess Royal Maternity. The Neonatal Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley provides Level 2 care.
Care provision should always been in accordance with the philosophies and polices set out by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and NHSGGC Acute Division.
The post holder is responsible for supporting the baby and family throughout their neonatal journey. The post holder should be actively involved in the assessment of care needs and, working in partnership with the families and MDT, the development of programmes of care. The post holder is also responsible for the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality effective care to the baby and his/ her family.
In the absence of the ward manager/ SCN the post holder will provide cover to ensure the effective operation of the clinical area.

Maintain clinical competence, PDP objectives and NMC revalidation.
Support and develop colleagues through supervision, teaching and preceptorship.
Coordinate care and deputise for senior staff when required.
Health and Safety The post holder will uphold health, safety and welfare standards for patients, families and staff.
Systems and Equipment The post holder will competently use and support others in clinical equipment and IT systems.
Use medical devices safely and provide guidance to junior staff.
Accurately record and retrieve patient data using electronic systems.
Decisions and Judgements The post holder will make informed clinical decisions based on ongoing assessment.
Adapt care plans as the baby's condition changes.
Remain accountable for practice while working under senior supervision.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
First level nursing or midwifery qualification (appropriate part of NMC Register relevant to area)
A minimum of 2 years post registration experience.
Neonatal Qualification in Speciality
Evidence of continuing professional development equivalent.
Ability to work within a Multi-disciplinary Team Setting
Good communication skills
Positive professional manner and attitude
Flexible to suit the demands of the service.
