The Regional Executive Director is a field-based role responsible for building and leading a high performing regional team of District Sales Managers and Clinical Sales Specialists to launch Ionis’s first wholly owned commercial product for Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS). This role reports to the U.S. Head of Sales and is accountable for delivering key strategic objectives by setting regional vision aligned to brand strategy and by coaching, hiring and retaining talent. The successful candidate will partner with cross-functional teams to address customer needs and ensure a compliant, high-quality customer and patient experience.
Base pay range
$179,000.00/yr - $270,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
* The Regional Executive Director will possess a deep understanding of the healthcare market in their region and the FCS and severe hypertriglyceridemia (sHTG) community, including key customers and accounts treating cardiovascular and lipid-related diseases.
* Build, maintain and leverage networks and relationships in the local healthcare system and lead teams to develop and execute effective plans to meet customer and Ionis goals.
* Serve as a leader: build, lead, coach, motivate, and inspire a diverse team with deep functional and therapeutic expertise, engaging across therapeutic field teams to bring a novel treatment to FCS patients.
Strategy and Innovation
* Executes brand strategic plans by developing and executing customer-focused regional strategic account plans to maximize business opportunities and customer satisfaction.
* Builds insight-driven tactics by understanding brand requirements and anticipating current and future needs of key customers including hospital and office-based Endocrinologists, Cardiologists and other sub-specialties.
* Oversees short-term and long-term plans for key accounts and maintains relationships with customers, owning key relations where necessary.
* Adjusts strategies to meet business goals in the region through targeted field strategy development.
* Fosters innovation and best-practice sharing throughout the commercial organization to exceed business goals.
* Contributes to recommendations for strategic changes to field force structures, incentive plans, sales processes, and customer approach and capabilities.
* Sets team values and cultural tone to maximize Ionis core behaviors and collaboration, with emphasis on compliance.
* Inspires and motivates regional field teams, including developing reward and recognition programs.
* Leads regular coaching check-ins and development planning with the team.
* Supports regional talent attraction, retention, in-role career development, and empowers individuals to succeed.
* Invests in own development and aligns the region with the company’s mission, policies and procedures including the Ionis Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
Performance Management
* Identifies startup and ongoing training initiatives with Learning and Development to define training plans.
* Oversees performance plans using KPIs, Account Management Plans, and customer insights to execute brand strategies.
* Conducts performance reviews and coaching for District Managers and ensures development plans are executed.
* Oversees achievement of regional objectives with integrity and compliance with policies.
* Coaches and manages performance; ensures adherence to corporate and compliance guidelines.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
* Ensures divisions are aligned with product messaging and brand strategy.
* Facilitates collaboration with internal stakeholders to enhance efficiency and goal attainment.
* Shares customer and operational insights across the organization to drive market success.
* Builds an environment of trust, belonging, teamwork and collaboration across teams.
* Ensures activities comply with regulations and corporate values.
* Shapes the commercial organization to meet customer and patient needs, including external collaboration with customers to develop advocates for TRYNGOLZA (olezarsen) by owning key accounts.
Resource Management
* Attracts and retains high-level talent capable of exceeding goals.
* Plans and monitors regional budgets to allocate resources effectively and maintain financial control.
* Advises on talent acquisition, onboarding and career development for new hires.
* Leads and holds the team accountable for delivering an integrated customer experience using data insights within budget.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree; Life Science, Biology, or related field; MBA or related graduate degree preferred.
* 13+ years of cross-functional industry experience in commercial life sciences (pharma or biotechnology).
* Strong business acumen and ability to develop and implement strategic plans across complex healthcare environments.
* Proven track record of meeting or exceeding financial and qualitative targets.
* Experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring front-line managers preferred.
* Solid understanding of external laws, codes, and policies in healthcare; ability to operate with integrity and compliance.
* Experience in building, leading and developing multi-functional teams and understanding of the healthcare system including market access and payer policies.

The pay scale for this position is $179,008 – $270,000
