Our Embedded Systems Solutions department (ESS) encompasses all activities outlined under the Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) process framework, including systems engineering, software engineering, coding, and all levels of functional testing. Beyond core development, ESS also integrates critical supporting processes such as project management, risk assessment, functional safety, and cybersecurity, ensuring compliance with ASPICE standards and delivering reliable, secure, and high-quality embedded systems & solutions.

The Role:

The Hardware systems engineer is responsible for determining the requirements for the following

1. Required connectivity to support the sensors/actuators/controllers hosted by the hardware.

2. Placement, brackets and packaging of the part in the vehicle

3. Support rig and vehicle builds with part details and debugging

4. Hardware requirements coming from support areas like functional safety, diagnostics, networks, and cyber security From concept to series-development the successful candidate will ensure the delivery of requirement package for the hardware that allows fitment of the designed part in the vehicle. Candidate must be hungry for success with a keen eye for detail and quality. Ability to take criticism and challenge with facts and evidence to ensure there is no ambiguity that communications are clear and timely and through the relevant channels. Reporting must be concise and to the point. Planning and execution of those fully tracked and reported.

TTL Environment

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast-growing function within Tata Technologies

Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers.

Area of Responsibility

Lead the task of interfacing with the component owners or commodity owners to determine the appropriate options for the communication connectivity to the rest of the vehicle communication system.

·Lead the task to determine sensor/actuator set to be hosted by the hardware and its connectivity options

·Work with the OEM/Tier1 engineers to integrate submitted connectivity requirements into the hardware block diagram/schematics. Provide input to the vehicle networks team to integrate part into the required networks topology

·Understand requirements from cyber security, diagnostics, functional safety group that impact hardware design and communicate to the Tier1/OEM hardware engineers

·Work with the power team to determine requirements for hardware design for the hardware and connected peripherals Work with the packaging team to determine the right placement position, IP rating, bracket design, fixing mechanism and communicate to Tier1/OEM engineers designing the casing.

·Submit connectivity requirements to the EDS team and work with them to determine connector options.

·Support the integration team with validation and debugging of any issues related to the designed hardware.

·Work with any function owner to allow for debugging of any fault observed in the functionality of the hosted software function.

·Lead the negotiations the solution to be implemented when there is a conflict between involved teams.

·Provide feedback to the hardware design group from the wider business for any improvements or lessons Learnt

·Ability to work with a diverse set of teams in both hardware and software across various domains

·Create FMEA for the hardware to dictate possible faults and then feed into the diagnostics for creating the required DTCs, trigger criteria and rectificat

Knowledge / Experience

Technical knowledge & experience of network technologies like CAN, LIN, Flexray, Ethernet etc.

·Experience of requirement cascade tools like DOORS, Code beamer etc.

·Experience of issue management tools like JIRA, RTC etc.

·Knowledge of connectivity options like PSI5, SENT, SPI, A2B etc and its typical uses

·Ideally have experience in delivering electrical architecture for Automotive, IHM, Aerospace etc domain via tools like Prevision, VSA COM editor, System Weaver or equivalent.

·Knowledge of hardware design activities like schematics generation, PCB design, power tree etc

·Basic knowledge of chip vendors and hardware packages supplied by them

·Experience of Electrical component & system specification, design, test & production.

·Successful history of delivery within the automotive sector in passenger car or defense applications, although other sectors are of interest for design, development & delivery experience

·Good understanding of the various automotive systems and sub-systems from functionality perspective

·Knowledge of ASIL rating and relevant Fusa requirements affecting hardware like redundant power supply, feedback loops etc

·Knowledge of cyber security terminology like secure boot, HSM, key management etc,

·Basic knowledge of the UDS and SOVD concept

·Basic knowledge of EDS design concepts (layout and connectors)

·Knowledge of vehicle electrical architecture landscape in other OEMs and lessons learnt
