Role: School Caretaker/Cleaner
Responsible to: The staff member is ultimately responsible to their Line Manager / Headteacher.
Hourly wage: £ £15.38 dependent on experience
Contract hours: 25 hours per week
Hours of Work:
* Term Time (39 weeks per year):
* Monday to Friday: 7:00am – 9:30am and 3:00pm – 5:30pm
* Non-Term Time (13 weeks per year):
* Monday to Friday: 9:00am – 2:00pm
Annual Leave:
* To be taken only during non-term time.
Contract term: Probationary Period for 6 months, Permanent thereafter
Summary
Penarth Group School is a Specialist Independent day School for boys and girls and is part of the Penarth Group. It is registered with the Department for Education (DfE) to meet the needs of up to 27 pupils between the ages of years. Admissions are through Authority placements/referrals.
Penarth Group is seeking a dedicated School Caretaker/Cleaner to join our team. This vital role supports our mission to create a safe and welcoming environment for our students and staff at Penarth Group School. The position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being of our young learners in a specialised educational setting.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities - Cleaning Duties
* Carry out daily cleaning of classrooms, corridors, toilets, offices, and communal spaces.
* Empty bins and manage recycling and waste disposal.
* Perform deep cleaning tasks during as required.
* Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet rolls, and cleaning products.
* Ensure cleaning equipment is maintained, safe, and stored appropriately.
Caretaking Duties
* Open and close the school premises, ensuring security systems and alarms are set appropriately.
* Undertake basic maintenance and repairs, or report issues to the appropriate contractor/manager.
* Monitor and maintain outdoor areas, including sweeping, litter picking, and ensuring paths are safe and accessible.
* Assist with setting up rooms and moving furniture or equipment as required.
* Carry out routine health and safety checks and support compliance with site regulations.
Health & Safety
* Ensure all cleaning activities comply with health and safety regulations and COSHH requirements.
* Follow safeguarding procedures and maintain a safe environment for pupils and staff.
* Report hazards, maintenance issues, or security concerns promptly.
Qualifications
Proven experience in cleaning or janitorial roles within educational or healthcare settings. Experience with custodial or industrial cleaning preferred. Ability to perform basic maintenance tasks effectively. Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards. Good communication skills and ability to work independently. Physical stamina for manual cleaning duties. Flexibility to assist with various facility maintenance tasks as needed.
