Dartford Dialysis Satellite Unit is based at Darent Valley Hospital. Our unit comprises a diverse team and promotes personal and professional development. You will assist the Unit Manager in driving quality patient-centered, compassionate care and support the team to attain efficiency and uphold standards.
This is an ideal opportunity for a band 5 nurse to utilize and enhance mentoring skills, leadership qualities, time management, and independent working. You will have 2 weeks supernumerary time and the opportunity to work alongside senior nurses and practice development nurses. An Assessor and Supervisor will be assigned to you.
As a band 5 staff nurse, you are expected to understand the principles of haemodialysis, including connecting and disconnecting patients. You will initiate and discontinue haemodialysis treatments safely, perform lining and priming of machines, troubleshoot complications, input data, and strip machines. Opportunities include learning fistula/graph assessments, cannulations, and CVC management.
The unit operates from Monday to Saturday, 6:30 am to 10:30 pm, with 12 haemodialysis stations serving 36 patients daily.
Shifts
* Day – 06:30-18:30
* Late – 10:30-22:30
You will work 13 shifts per 4-week rota.
Main duties of the job
* Providing holistic care to haemodialysis patients independently.
* Supporting senior nurses in daily unit operations.
* Cleaning equipment, including dialysis machines, beds, and tables.
* Lining, priming, and stripping haemodialysis machines.
* Monitoring patient observations and documenting findings.
* Reporting deviations from normal to senior staff.
* Supporting and mentoring registered nurses and healthcare assistants, including conducting appraisals.
* Performing cannulations and evaluating AVF, AVG, and CVC.
* Connecting and disconnecting haemodialysis machines for various patients.
* Prioritizing patient care based on individual needs.
* Checking and reporting on water plant systems daily.
* Participating in patient education and ongoing research studies.
* Assessing, planning, and evaluating care.
* Maintaining effective communication within the team.
* Ensuring patient confidentiality.
* Adhering to trust policies and protocols.
* Participating in team meetings.
* Ensuring competency documentation is signed and up-to-date.
* Managing a caseload of six to seven patients and playing a key role in the unit.
