Senior Quantity Surveyor – Mott MacDonald

Our Environment & Water portfolio is expanding, offering a strategic role for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to deliver complex UK infrastructure projects with excellence, safety and client focus.
Responsibilities
* Manage the pre-contract tender process including assessment, queries and issue award recommendation reports.
* Provide robust estimates aligned to scope, incorporating all risks.
* Drive commercial inputs to procurement, ensuring strategies are agreed.
* Administer contracts in line with requirements, responding to communications, payments, compensation events and programme submissions.
* Lead proactive budget and cost management, delivering solutions with a ‘can do’ attitude.
* Maintain accurate commercial reporting.
* Manage project and programme risk, implementing mitigation plans.
* Build strong client relationships across the organisation.
* Support internal business development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
* Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or related subject.
* Extensive experience with NEC3 or 4 ECC Main Option A, C or E for delivery, administration and management.
* Demonstrated practical application of NEC3/4 ECC.
* Chartered Surveyor (MRICS).
* Commercially managed post-contract projects from award to final account, including budget/price control, forecasts, payment assessments and compensation events.
* Experience with a contract‑management software such as CEMAR.
* Stakeholder management skills.
* Willingness to travel to and work in client offices in Cumbria.
Desirable
* NEC3/4 ECC accredited Project Manager.
* Knowledge of the water/wastewater industry, including the Water Industry Act 1991 and New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 §84.
* Sound decision‑making based on client and team needs.
* Pre‑contract tendering experience on NEC3/4 ECC.

Our UK‑based business delivers end‑to‑end project and commercial management to regulated water/wastewater clients and the Environment Agency, from pre‑contract estimating to post‑contract QS services. Projects span from several hundred thousand pounds to multibillion‑pound programmes, supported by our cost‑intelligence team.
