Freelance Quantity Surveyor - Newcastle
PSR are seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to take a lead role in the day-to-day commercial management of live construction projects in Newcastle. The position will focus on concluding procurement activities, maintaining strong commercial control, and ensuring accurate reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the day-to-day commercial management of assigned projects, acting as the primary QS on site.
Conclude procurement of subcontract packages, including tender analysis, commercial evaluation, negotiation and subcontract award.
Maintain effective cost control, managing valuations, variations, change control and final accounts.
Produce accurate and timely commercial reporting, including CVRs, cost reports and cashflow forecasting.
Maintain oversight of project budgets, proactively identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
Work closely with site, design, planning and engineering teams to ensure commercial activities align with programme and delivery requirements.
Support senior commercial management with forecasting, cost reviews and financial reporting.
Ensure commercial processes are followed in line with company procedures and contractual requirements.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment.
Strong experience leading commercial activities on live projects.
Solid working knowledge of NEC or comparable standard forms of contract.
Commercially astute with strong negotiation, communication and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Immediate or short-notice availability is advantageous.
