Location: Lakeridge Health Whitby (primary site); Lakeridge Health Oshawa (secondary site)
Wage Schedule: $34.260 - $39.500 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:

Senior Pharmacy Technician - 6-month Trial

The Regional Nephrology Program will be introducing a Senior Pharmacy Technician position which will incorporate the role of Drug Access Navigator, similar to the roles the Durham Region Cancer Centre has had in place for several years.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Drug Access Navigator (DAN) acts as a resident expert on medication cost reimbursement and coverage for patients and the Lakeridge Health Nephrology Program Pharmacy. Their primary responsibility is to facilitate and coordinate the submission of funding requests for Nephrology patients. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, this role will gather the required information for completion and submission of applications for imbursement. Serving as a centralized point of contact for Patients, Nephrology Physicians, Pharmacists, Nurses, Social Workers, and the Finance team, the Drug Access Navigator will be actively involved with government, community based and private agencies that provide financial assistance for medications, serving as an expert advisor to patients, families and health care providers regarding medication access and reimbursement. Included in the work of the Drug Access Navigator will be the review of clinical indicators such as bloodwork and social determinants of health to provide details within the medication reimbursement application.

The Senior Technician will also streamline and document processes within the current medication delivery system in the Nephrology program and be responsible for coordinating the supply of medications and vaccines. This will ensure staff are available to obtain consent, orders are entered, verified, dispensed, and administered in a timely manner.

The Senior Technician will serve a fundamental role with vaccine administration to support reduction in the wait time between the prescriber obtaining patient consent and pharmacy staff obtaining the vaccine, for an optimal patient experience and to minimize vaccine wastage.

Additional responsibilities of the Senior Technician include:
*Providing monthly Aranesp billing invoices to MOH, and sending to Finance, and Managers
*Generating monthly narcotic audit reports for ICHD Clinical Practice Leaders and Managers
*Generating monthly staff scan verification reports for Medselect and sending to ICHD Clinical Practice Leaders and Managers
*Generating monthly medication reconciliation reports, followed by assigning and entering into Nurses Care Plan. Subsequent follow up to ensure completion, and compiling results for ICHD Clinical Practice Leaders and Managers
*Generating random drug usage reporting, such as Cathflo, which may be required for cost analysis, etc.
*Arranging any out of the ordinary vaccine or medication availability for all sites
*Ensuring Technician scheduling and coverage at each site for receiving and medication cabinet loading, to support clinic appointments and BPMH for the in-centre sites
*Connecting with Corporate Pharmacy prior to OCP and Accreditation Canada visits to ensure compliance with the policies of these organizations
*Support for the regulation and the dispensing of medications for ICHD patients attending Camp Dorset during the summer months

QUALIFICATIONS:
*Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT);
*Graduate of a CCAPP (Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs) Accredited Pharmacy Technician Education Program;
*3-5 years' experience working in Nephrology preferred;
*Experience with providing drug access services preferred;
*Extensive technical and working knowledge of the specific work area;
*Previous administrative and/or project experience preferred;
*Strong computer skills including proficient keyboarding skills;
*Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel are preferred;
*Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills;
*Strong customer service skills
*Physically able to perform duties in work area;
*Self motivated, able to take initiative and willingness to learn new skills and adapt to change;
*Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgement and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively;
*Well organized with strong time management skills and ability to prioritize workload;
*Must have a satisfactory performance record;

*Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and participation in regular in-service education sessions.



CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and OPSEU Local 348.

Successful External applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector, dated within the past six (6) months.
