Senior Mechanical Engineer
Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! Reporting to the Turbine Island Lead, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for various Turbine Island design development activities. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams and the supply chain to deliver the Turbine Island design.
Your responsibilities include:
* Ensuring supplier deliverables meet requirements by critically assessing designs.
* Creating and reviewing Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Sizing Calculations, Datasheets, and Specifications.
* Leading and reviewing optioneering studies, Decision Record Files, Design Descriptions, and Requirement Specifications.
* Developing and reviewing Functional and Design Requirements using Systems Engineering principles.
* Integrating Turbine Island design into the wider power plant seamlessly.
* Providing technical support as the contact for Turbine Island interfaces and stakeholder activities.
* Participating in Design Reviews and HAZID/HAZOP studies with multidisciplinary teams.
* Collaborating with the safety team on nuclear safety licensing, environmental planning/permitting, and related activities.
* Adhering to statutory H&S policies, project quality, and the Quality Management System.

Qualifications:
* Experience in nuclear, thermal power, oil and gas, or other regulated sectors, with familiarity with steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems.
* Strong background in thermal power systems from FEED to detailed design and EPC delivery.
* Skilled in procurement specifications and collaborating with equipment suppliers.
* Extensive technical experience in thermal power or similar projects.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
* Project management capabilities, especially in managing critical interfaces.
* Knowledge of UK Health and Safety regulations, safety systems, HAZOP, and engineering standards.
* Familiarity with ASME, European, and UK codes and standards.
* Experience or awareness of Systems Engineering is a plus.

* Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in engineering; CEng or working towards it.
* SC Security Clearance or ability to obtain it.
