SEMH Youth Worker / School Mentor
Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Hours: Full‑Time, 08:30 - 15:30 (Monday to Friday, Term‑Time Only)
Salary: £96.89 - £121.89 per day / annum (Dependent on experience)
Start Date: As soon as possible / September 2026
Key Responsibilities as a Youth Worker
* Build Relationships: Establish strong, trusting, and positive connections with pupils aged 11‑16 who have complex SEMH needs.
* De‑escalation & Support: Utilise your youth work background to defuse challenging situations, manage behaviour positively, and encourage emotional regulation.
* Targeted Interventions: Deliver 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions focusing on self‑esteem, anger management, and social skills.
* Re‑engagement: Act as a bridge between the pupils and their education, making learning feel accessible and achievable.
* Collaboration: Support classroom teachers and the pastoral team by providing real‑time feedback on pupil wellbeing and triggers.
What We Are Looking For (Job Requirements)
* Experience: A solid background in youth work, residential care, youth justice, sports coaching, or community outreach. Experience working with vulnerable or at‑risk youth is essential.
* Character: A thick skin, a calm demeanour under pressure, and a non‑judgemental approach. You must be someone who views a challenging day as an opportunity to reset and try again tomorrow.
* Skills: Excellent communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and natural boundary‑setting abilities.
* Qualifications: Relevant qualifications in Youth Work, Social Care, or Sport are advantageous. Training in Team Teach, MAPA, or Price is highly desirable (though CPD training can be provided).
