Job Description HR Investigation Officer - 6 months Act Up or Secondment or Fixed Term Contract opportunity for Birmingham Council employees 6 month Fixed Term Contract for non-Birmingham Council employees. Grade D - £45,091 - £53,460 Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review Working 36.5 hours per week Join us as a HR Investigator Officer and take ownership of a varied and complex caseload that directly shapes fairness, trust and accountability across the organisation. You'll lead investigations into disciplinary matters, grievances, bullying and harassment-ensuring every case is handled with professionalism, impartiality and full compliance with employment law and organisational policy. This is a role for someone who thrives on analytical thinking, structured casework and delivering high-quality outcomes that stand up to scrutiny. You will manage each investigation from start to finish: planning lines of enquiry, gathering and evaluating evidence, conducting interviews, and producing clear, robust and evidence-based reports. Working closely with the HR Investigations Manager and a wide range of stakeholders, you'll ensure cases progress efficiently, sensitively and in line with expectations. Your work will support formal hearings, influence decision-making and contribute to a culture of fairness and transparency. Please note, having significant experience of chairing investigations and hearings is essential and you must be able to demonstrate this. Key responsibilities include: Leading complex ER investigations - independently managing cases involving disciplinary issues, grievances and harassment. Developing structured investigation plans - identifying evidence, witnesses and key lines of enquiry. Conducting impartial interviews - gathering accurate, balanced and reliable information. Producing high-quality investigation reports - ensuring clarity, factual accuracy and legal robustness. Presenting findings at hearings - supporting panels with clear, confident and objective summaries. Maintaining accurate case records - ensuring confidentiality, organisation and compliance with data protection legislation.
