Cygnet Hospital Godden Green, a private mental health hospital, is looking for a full‑time Assistant Cook passionate about food and making a difference.
You’ll work 38 hours a week over 4 days on a rota basis (three 10‑hour shifts and one 8‑hour shift) including weekends. Earliest shift starts at 7am and the latest finishes at 6pm. We provide a free shuttle bus service to pick up and drop off staff from the local train station for those using public transport.
Responsibilities
* Assist the Head Chef in menu preparation.
* Prepare, cook and serve nutritional, balanced and appetising meals.
* Provide special diets, taking into account individual preferences and needs.
* Lead the kitchen staff during the Head Chef’s absence.
* Guide and supervise the junior kitchen staff during food preparation.
* Liaise with nursing colleagues to meet patients’ nutritional and dietary needs.
* Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, service areas and dining room.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and Food Hygiene Regulations.
* Handle, maintain and store kitchen equipment in accordance with Cygnet procedures.
* Use chemicals in line with COSHH regulations.

Requirements
* A skilled cook who can work under pressure.
* Preferably experienced in the care sector.
* Able to plan nourishing and attractive menus within available budgets.
* Holder of a food hygiene certificate and with good personal hygiene standards.
* Polite and professional, with a positive attitude to internal and external patients at all times.
* Excellent communication skills to liaise with people at all levels.
* Capable of working independently, as part of a team and under supervision.
* Successful candidates must undergo an enhanced DBS check.
