OMFS Specialty Dentist - fixed term locum
Applications are invited for a Speciality Dentist in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. This is a full time post - 10 sessions a week; however, the Trust would consider a job share arrangement.
The successful candidate(s) will be fully integrated into the departmental clinics and out-patient treatment lists as well as involvement with theatres. There is no on call requirement for this post. We are looking for a dynamic, keen clinician to assess and treat adult and paediatric patients referred to our department under the care of both Oral and OMFS Consultants. The post holder will work with an extended team to support the Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Consultants deliver a comprehensive elective and emergency oral and maxillofacial service, supporting the DCTs managing in-patients and emergencies.
Candidates must have 3 years full-time relevant experience post-graduation, or equivalent and be fully registered with the General Dental Council.
Main duties of the job
Out-patient Department: The role will contain routine attendance of new and follow up clinics for Oral and OMF Surgery patient care. There is a wide variety of pathologies treated within the department (cleft, orthognathic, salivary gland, oral medicine etc.) and the opportunity to be present at multi-disciplinary meetings and clinics.
The successful candidate will assess and perform independent minor operations under local anaesthesia for adults or children and undertake teaching and supervision of exodontia and minor oral surgery to postgraduate training grades.
Theatre: Assisting consultants on Main and Day Surgery theatre lists. General anaesthetic lists may be available to undertake surgical treatment, including treatment of impacted and ectopic teeth.
This post currently does not have any on call cover requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Training
* BDS or equivalent
* Full GDC registration with a licence to practice
* MFDS or equivalent
Experience / Clinical Skills
* At least three years' experience post qualification in Oral and OMF Surgery.
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems and demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach.
* Experience mentoring / teaching junior staff
* Experience managing risk
* Evidence of multidisciplinary working
Communication
* Clear written and verbal communication
