We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dedicated Unit Lead to oversee the day-to-day operations of our specialist Dementia Unit. As the Unit Lead, you will play a key role in leading a team of care staff to deliver person-centred, high-quality care tailored to the needs of individuals living with dementia. You will promote a homely, safe, and engaging environment while supporting staff development, resident wellbeing, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Management
* Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of care staff, ensuring high standards of care at all times.
* Oversee daily operations within the dementia unit, including staff allocation, shift planning, and handovers.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful working environment.
* Monitor and evaluate care delivery and implement improvements where needed.
* Support and participate in the recruitment, induction, and ongoing training of care staff.
Resident Care
* Ensure residents' individual care plans are up to date and accurately reflect their needs and preferences.
* Champion person-centred dementia care practices that support dignity, independence, and choice.
* Work collaboratively with residents' families, healthcare professionals, and the wider care team.
* Monitor the physical and emotional wellbeing of residents, escalating any concerns promptly.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
* Ensure the dementia unit operates in accordance with CQC standards, internal policies, and all relevant legislation.
* Support the Home Manager with audits, inspections, and action plans.
* Maintain accurate care records and documentation.
* Uphold safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately.
Training & Development
* Act as a role model and mentor for junior staff in dementia care best practices.
* Identify training needs and contribute to the continuous professional development of the team.
* Promote a culture of learning, reflection, and accountability.
Person Specification:
Essential:
* Previous experience working with individuals living with dementia.
* Experience in a senior care role or team leader position.
* Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication.
* Compassionate, patient, and emotionally resilient.
* Understanding of dementia care principles and person-centred approaches.
Desirable:
* NVQ/QCF Level 3 or above in Health & Social Care (or working towards it).
* Experience in a supervisory or unit management role.
* Dementia care qualifications or training (e.g., Dementia Friends, Dementia Care Mapping).
