Product Safety Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for the role of Product Safety Engineer in the Thales UK Optronics & Missile Electronics (OME) organisation. This role will directly contribute to the on‑going development of the Land, Naval and Air products and systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Identify to the Safety Authority any concerns regarding the safety of a product, or the application of policies and processes.
* Generate safety artefacts required to support the product safety argument, such as Safety & Environmental Management Plans, Hazard Logs and Safety & Environmental Case Reports.
* Facilitate appropriate hazard/risk identification including functional failure analysis, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis, Fault & Event Tree Analysis.
* Develop product safety requirements.
* Support Project Design Authorities in achieving compliance with legislation, regulations and standards applicable to the product(s).
* Assist in generating reasonable bid estimates.
* Peer review product safety‑related artefacts generated by others in the team.
* Manage multiple safety programmes, including scheduling and interacting with stakeholders.
* Support the development of Product Safety training material and deliver the training.
Skills & Behaviours
* Experience in the implementation and delivery of Product and System Safety Engineering activities is highly desirable.
* Ability to build positive and effective relationships with stakeholders, including team members and customers.
* Attention to detail.
* Willingness to learn.
Security Clearance
This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not, the successful applicant will have to undergo, achieve and maintain SC Clearance. For further guidance, please see the UKSV website and the Defence Business Services National Security Vetting (DBS NSV) Agency guidelines on evidence required.
