Job summary
Due to exciting service developments, the service is looking to recruit a Consultant Geriatrician with interests in Frailty, Movement Disorder, Dementia, Delirium, and Community Geriatrics.
Wirral University Teaching Hospital is a large district general hospital serving a population of 400,000 on the Wirral peninsula. The area has a high proportion of older patients compared to the national average and a significant care home population, resulting in a high number of patients with frailty.
Patients are primarily admitted from the Emergency Department (ED), with some from the Urgent Medical Assessment Centre (UMAC). They are assessed by a Multi-Disciplinary Team on OPAU, focusing on a 'Home First' approach for patients.
This post supports our work at the front door, emphasizing the 'Home First' approach. The role's specific remit may evolve as part of our wider departmental review.
Main duties of the job
1. The post-holder will work closely with other Geriatricians to provide a comprehensive service.
2. The post-holder will collaborate with the MDT to assess frail, older patients admitted to WUTH, maintaining a 'Home First' mentality.
3. The post-holder will provide in-reach into ED to assess frail older patients and support senior decision-making for the Frailty at the Front Door team.
4. The post-holder will cover the out-of-hours DME on-call rota, which attracts a 3% on-call supplement.
