Senior Building Surveyor
Canal & River Trust is hiring a Senior Building Surveyor.

Location & Working Hours
Location: Work from home with an expectation of regional travel. Preferred regions: North West/West Midlands for team meetings; all regions considered.
Working Hours: 37 hours Monday‑Friday, occasional evening and weekend working.
Key accountabilities
* Inspect, assess and prioritise building works to maintain the value and condition of the Trust’s commercial and operational building stock.
* Ensure statutory compliance in respect of all directly managed commercial and operational property.
* Support all professional building surveying requirements of the surveyors within the Property Directorate teams.
* Provide advice in respect of maintenance planning, acquisitions, management of external consultants and commercial/operational tenancies, preparation and negotiation of schedules of dilapidation, assessment and monitoring of tenant alterations, statutory compliance, measurement of buildings and preparation of insurance reinstatement cost assessments.
* Manage framework contractor to efficiently and safely deliver core works, planned and reactive maintenance works and projects.
* Prepare budget plans and forecasts in connection with contract expenditure.
* Contribute technical advice during the feasibility, design, construction and commissioning phases for projects.
* Act as Lead Designer / Designer for relevant works, being responsible for providing expert building analysis and advice for prioritised infrastructure risks and improvements, including CDM appointments for both client and design roles.
About you
* Chartered Building Surveyor or Chartered Builder (RICS or MCIOB) to provide confidence that advice is appropriate and competent.
* Extensive experience of constructing buildings and building defect diagnosis across a variety of building types.
* Experience of administering a range of construction contracts, especially JCT and NEC contracts for maintenance works and project delivery.
* Experience in a range of professional surveying services including preparation of schedules of dilapidation and negotiation, measurement of buildings, preparation of insurance reinstatement cost assessments, maintenance plans.
* Knowledge of historic building defects and repair methods.
* Ability to apply professional thinking in forming conclusions from statutory standards to resolve problems, with substantial knowledge of statutory legislation relating to buildings.
* Knowledge of statutory requirements for compliance and health and safety management.
* Valid driving licence for access to remote sites with necessary equipment.
