The Contract Engineering Manager (CEM) is responsible for leading the engineering delivery of civil engineering projects, including disciplines such as Drainage, Geotechnical, Fencing, Foundations, Piling, Embankment Stabilisation, Site Investigation, and Environmental Sustainability. The CEM will serve as the primary technical authority, ensuring solutions meet contractual, regulatory, and technical standards. A key aspect of the role is promoting sustainable engineering practices that deliver low-carbon and environmentally responsible outcomes. The CEM will also act as the Temporary Works Coordinator, support tendering activities, and contribute to the adoption of sustainable practices across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Engineering Leadership: Provide technical leadership, integrate sustainable solutions, liaise with stakeholders, and mentor the engineering team.
2. Sustainable Engineering Solutions: Champion low-carbon materials, circular economy principles, conduct sustainability impact assessments, and support tender submissions with sustainable strategies.
3. Design Management: Lead design delivery for both permanent and temporary works, ensuring compliance and sustainability in all stages.
4. Temporary Works Coordination: Manage temporary works design and compliance, maintain records, and train teams on sustainable methods.
5. Technical Assurance: Implement assurance processes, lead reviews, and ensure documentation aligns with sustainable practices.
6. Project Delivery: Collaborate with project managers to deliver solutions on time, within budget, and sustainably.
7. Compliance & Safety: Ensure activities meet safety and environmental standards, develop safety documentation, and promote a safety culture.
8. Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the organization in technical discussions, build relationships, and engage with communities.
9. Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reports, track sustainability metrics, and maintain records for audits.
What we’re looking for:
* Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
* Chartered or working towards Chartered status.
* Experience in civil engineering disciplines listed above.
* Knowledge of BS 5975 and temporary works management.
* Leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Experience with tendering and technical submissions.
* Strong commitment to sustainable engineering practices.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Problem-solving abilities and experience with engineering software.
* Knowledge of HSQE management systems.
