Job Description
A high growth light industrial business is looking for a Financial Controller to take ownership of their finance function and support continued expansion – through new site openings and acquisitions.
This is a genuine number-one finance role with full end-to end ownership. You will inherit a capable team of three and well-established finance systems, so you can focus on improvement and impact rather than building from scratch.
Finance automation is core to this role. The right candidate will be genuinely excited by the potential of technology – including AI – to handle high transaction volumes efficiently and surface data for better decision-making. You will have the backing and budget to invest in improvements, not just the expectation of doing more with less.
The role is based 2-3 days per week in Mitcham, South London (near Mitcham Junction station), with occasional travel across the South of England. It is a role for someone who wants real autonomy, growth opportunities, and a direct line to the top.
Responsibilities
* Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cashflow planning
* Maximise efficiency of capital expenditure by monitoring KPIs including equipment utilisation and payback periods
* Own the month-end close process and prepare monthly multi-depot management accounts
* Oversee preparation of statutory accounts and liaise with external auditor
* Oversee credit control, establishing automations to support on-time cash collection, and purchase ledger activities, including PO control and invoice matching
* Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of the finance function, via process improvement or technology development
* Own and develop the existing controls within the business
* Support the CEO to maintain relationships with banking partners, asset finance partners and support (new/existing) investor relationships as required
* Support the CEO with financial due diligence on potential acquisitions
About you
* Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
* Experience in a senior finance leadership role, including preparing monthly management accounts
* Experience driving technology-driven process improvement in a finance function
* Excellent data analysis skills; strong Excel skills, experience using SQL or other data manipulation languages and PowerBI is a plus
* This role is hands-on. You’ll need to be comfortable rolling your sleeves up where needed, while thinking strategically about how finance supports the wider business
* Willingness to travel across our depot network for meetings and to visit potential new acquisitions
* Must have a maximum 1 month notice period
* Experience working in a light industrial / capital intensive business is a plus
