ETS Officer
£55,000 plus great additional benefits
Hybrid role covering 4 sites across the South of the UK
Kingston Barnes is pleased to be recruiting an ETS officer for our client, a leading UK energy and environmental organisation. You will be joining their compliance team on a fixed term 24-month contract.
This is a key role supporting multiple Energy from Waste facilities, ensuring full compliance with the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and helping drive best-in-class environmental performance and emissions reporting.
The Role
You will provide specialist ETS expertise across operational energy sites, ensuring compliance with monitoring plans, regulatory permits, and emissions reporting requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
* Ensuring compliance with UK ETS permits and monitoring plans
* Providing technical guidance and support to operational teams on ETS requirements
* Leading quarterly emissions reporting submissions to DESNZ
* Developing and maintaining standard emissions reporting templates and internal procedures
* Coordinating and leading external audits and verification activities
* Conducting internal ETS verification assessments across multiple sites
* Analysing emissions data and ensuring accuracy of monitoring and reporting processes
* Advising on the surrendering of emissions allowances
* Building effective relationships with environmental regulators and internal stakeholders
* Supporting continuous improvement of MRV (Monitoring, Reporting & Verification) processes
* involvement in waste composition analysis and advanced waste sampling activities at selected sites.
About you:
* Strong working knowledge of the UK ETS framework
* Experience delivering ETS compliance in an operational or industrial environment
* Familiarity with emissions monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) processes
* Strong analytical skills and experience handling emissions data
* Experience supporting audits, inspections, or regulatory reporting
* Understanding of ISO 14001 environmental management systems
* Minimum 5 years’ experience within an industry covered by ETS
* Degree in a relevant subject (environmental, engineering, or similar)
* Full UK driving licence
* Experience within Energy from Waste, power generation, cement, steel, chemicals, or heavy industry (desirable)
* Chartered membership with a relevant professional body (desirable)
