Job overview Kingu2019s are inviting applications for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist vacancy at our Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) and Orpington Hospital.u00a0u00a0 The post offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a supportive acute inpatient team.u00a0 Kingu2019s offers high quality Band 6 rotations: a) Acute Medicine, b) Stroke, c) ITU/Respiratory/Surgery, d) Frailty and e) Neuro rehabilitation (on the Orpington Site). This post will commence in the Frailty rotation.u00a0 Main duties of the job The successful applicant will provide Speech and Language Therapy within each clinical speciality, remaining within each area for 9 months.u00a0 This will allow the opportunity to develop a wide knowledge base and range of skills, alongside specified learning objectives and ring-fenced learning time to achieve these. u00a0In addition, each rotation offers the opportunity to develop broader specialist skills, such as supervision of Band 5 therapists, and tracheostomy and videofluoroscopy competencies. The acute SLT team works closely with the wider multidisciplinary teams.u00a0 The SLT service offers a comprehensive supervision and CPD structure with a range of opportunities for learning and participation in both self and service development. There is a strong emphasis on the management of both communication and swallowing difficulties and the impact of SLT within the acute setting. This post requires a flexible approach to working and will require the post holder to work as part of a rotau2019d seven day working pattern. We provide a weekly videofluoroscopy clinic. Detailed and main responsibilities The acute rotations on the PRUH site will include cover to the following areas:u2013u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0 a) Medicine, b) Stroke, c) Respiratory, Surgery & ITU and d) Frailty Additionally, there is a Neuro rehabilitation rotation at the Orpington Site.u00a0 The post holder will provide Speech and Language Therapy services across a range of wards and specialities, remaining within each clinical speciality for 9 months.u00a0 This will allow them the opportunity to develop a specialist clinical and management skills within the area of adult acute acquired disorders.u00a0 Line management will be provided by the relevant senior therapist depending on the rotation. Person specification Qualification & Registration Essential criteria Member of RCSLT Registration with the Health Professions Council Postgraduate training in communication disorders and aphasia therapy Band 5 competency in relation to assessment, treatment & management of acquired communication and swallowing problems; including Desirable criteria Established experience with adult acquired and neurological disorders in an acute setting including managing your own caseload and using a range of assessment and therapy techniques Excellent written and spoken communication skills and ability to communicate sensitive and complex information Experience of supervising junior staff Up to date knowledge of the mental capacity act Employer certification / accreditation badges Applicant requirements You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
