Overview
We’re seeking an experienced Head of Digital Operations (Interim) to lead and stabilise a newly formed function bringing together service management, cloud & technology operations, and strategic managed service providers within a Microsoft Azure-based environment.
This role will provide critical temporary leadership across digital operations, ensuring service stability, operational integrity, and effective supplier management during a period of transition and handover.
Summary of Interim Cover Requirement
This role will take responsibility for a newly created, consolidated Digital Operations function, including:
* Service Management
* Technology & Cloud Operations (Azure)
* Managed Service Providers (Service Desk, 2nd–4th Line Support)
* End User & Infrastructure Computing (EUIC)
* Network & Connectivity Services
* Internal Technical Operations Team
There will be an initial handover period with the permanent Head of Digital Operations, followed by a phased return overlap before full transition back.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide end-to-end leadership of Digital Operations, covering infrastructure, systems, and support services
* Oversee the delivery, performance, and governance of all digital services including:
* Support & maintenance
* Vulnerability management
* Service management
* EUIC services
* Networking & connectivity
* Security and operational integrity
* Ensure availability, accessibility, and security of all digital systems, platforms, and environments
* Implement and oversee service monitoring and response management:
* Core hours: 8am–6pm (working days)
* Out-of-hours: alert monitoring and escalation
* Own incident and service request management, ensuring SLA adherence and high-quality resolution
* Lead major incident management, including escalation, resolution, and post-incident reviews
* Drive continuous improvement across operational processes and service delivery
* Manage and govern third-party vendors and MSPs, ensuring performance against SLAs
* Attend and lead service review meetings with key partners
* Support team leads with resource planning, forecasting, and workload management
* Ensure operational readiness for project and change handover into BAU, working closely with:
* DS Portfolio Manager
* Delivery teams
* Technical leads
* Act as key liaison between Digital Operations and senior leadership, including the Head of IT
* Contribute to senior leadership forums as required
Key Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in a Head of / Director-level Digital or IT Operations role (interim preferred)
* Strong experience managing Azure cloud environments and hybrid infrastructure
* Deep expertise across:
* IT service management (ITIL aligned)
* Infrastructure & cloud operations
* Enterprise systems support
* Supplier / MSP management
* Track record of stabilising and leading complex operational environments
* Strong incident and major incident management experience
* Comfortable leading in fast-paced, ambiguous, or transitional environments
* Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate at senior leadership level
* Strong communication and leadership capability across hybrid and distributed teams
Desirable
* Experience in public sector or regulated environments
* Exposure to DevOps / SRE practices
* Experience with operational transformation or service consolidation
