Overview

Experienced / Senior Social Worker - Children and Young Peoples Team at Barnsley Council. Position reference: 50100913/745302. Directorate: Childrenfs Services | Service: Children & Family Social Care. Salary: £42,839 - £49,282 (career graded). Working arrangements: Agile - 3 days minimum in the office. Hours per week: 37. Contract type: Fixed term for 12 months.

Closing date: 19/09/2025 23:59. The successful candidate will be required to speak English to an appropriate standard. This post requires an Enhanced DBS Check. If you have lived overseas in the last five years and are the preferred candidate, you will be required to apply for an overseas criminal records check. The organisation does not sponsor visas for skilled or temporary migrant workers.

Responsibilities

* Deliver a service where children feel safe, are listened to, and receive a timely, creative and individual response.
* Work with children in need, child protection cases, and in care proceedings; collaborate with families and agencies to drive plans and promote outcomes.
* Contribute to safeguarding and positive outcomes for children and young people; ensure interventions are meaningful and proportionate.
* Participate in induction, supervision, and a robust continuous professional development programme through the Practice Development Hub.
* Work as part of a team to deliver services that prioritise childrenfs and families first, in partnership with residents, partners and organisations.


Qualifications

* Social Work Qualification and registration with Social Work England.


Requirements & Conditions

* Enhanced DBS Check is required.
* If overseas residence applies, obtain an overseas criminal records check; visa sponsorship is not provided.
* Keep documents ready for start, including legal eligibility to work in the UK.
* Pensions: if you are in receipt of a pension, assess impact with the relevant Pensions Authority.
