Production Engineer
East Sussex
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Production Engineer to support engineering operations by managing and translating client requirements into standardized internal data structures. This includes Product Data Management (PDM), creation and configuration of Bills of Materials (BoMs), and technical documentation control. The role also involves basic 3D modeling, ensuring correct component selection, and providing support for electrical and instrumentation order handling.
Key Responsibilities:
* BoM Management & Engineering Support :
Create, configure, and manage Bills of Materials for new orders, identifying potential risks and resolving engineering gaps to ensure products are accurately specified and built.
* Cross-Functional Engineering Support :
Act as a technical liaison across departments, assisting supply chain teams with sourcing and manufacturability, aiding customer service with issue resolution, and supporting internal sales with product knowledge and engineering insights.
* Performance Monitoring & Problem Solving :
Ensure engineering and project targets are met. Proactively identify challenges and develop innovative solutions to support business growth and operational efficiency.
* Continuous Improvement :
Drive root-cause analysis and implement long-term preventive measures as part of ongoing development initiatives.
* Stakeholder Management :
Manage internal and external expectations effectively, ensuring timely and accurate communication throughout the engineering process.
* 3D CAD Modeling & Package Verification :
Perform 3D modeling and assembly checks using Siemens NX (or similar CAD tools) to verify the suitability and accuracy of product configurations.
* Instrumentation & Motor Specification :
Specify and manage documentation for motors and instrumentation components as required for projects. Support document creation, reviews, and revisions.
* Technical Training & Support :
Deliver product training to channel partners and internal teams on system capabilities, sizing tools, and engineered options.
* Interdepartmental Coordination :
Bridge the gap between Engineering and Applications teams, enhancing communication, increasing technical and commercial understanding, and providing post-order support when necessary.
* Proposal Support :
Contribute to the preparation of technical and commercial proposals, supporting the applications workload during peak periods.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Recognized qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC or degree level).
* Minimum of 1 year of experience in a mechanical engineering environment.
* Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to develop robust engineering solutions.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
* Strong spatial awareness and the ability to interpret technical drawings and visualize designs.
* Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
* Basic understanding of electrical components, particularly motors and instrumentation.
