We are seeking an experienced and innovative Health and Wellbeing Manager to lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of exercise referral and physical activity programmes across Leisure United’s growing national network of community sports hubs. Working closely with hubs that feature gym and studio facilities, the successful candidate will also drive the creation of inclusive programmes and opportunities that maximise the use of facilities and spaces across our wider portfolio. The role will play a key part in activating hub sites in the broadest sense, supporting community engagement, improving health outcomes, and increasing participation in physical activity across diverse communities. This strategic and operational role will oversee the creation and delivery of place-based community programmes that support the prevention and management of long-term health conditions, reduce inactivity, and help address wider health inequalities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with site-based instructors, healthcare professionals, local authorities, community organisations, and Leisure United colleagues to ensure high-quality, safe, inclusive, and impactful wellbeing services are delivered consistently across all locations. Key Responsibilities Programme Leadership & Development Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing development of Leisure United’s physical activity on referral programme. Develop scalable community-based exercise referral pathways aligned with NHS, public health, and local wellbeing priorities. Ensure programmes are inclusive, accessible, evidence-based, and responsive to community needs. Monitor emerging trends, policy developments, and best practice within health and wellbeing services. Operational Management Oversee the delivery and quality assurance of referral programmes across all Leisure United hubs. Develop operational procedures, referral frameworks, safeguarding processes, and participant support pathways. Ensure services comply with relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection standards. Support hubs to achieve consistent programme standards and positive participant outcomes. Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with NHS partners, GP practices, Integrated Care Boards, public health teams, local authorities, and community organisations. Act as the key organisational lead for health referral partnerships and wellbeing initiatives. Represent Leisure United at local, regional, and national health and wellbeing forums. To influence and support stakeholders on the integration of physical activity to health pathways. Community Sport & Engagement Develop referral pathways that integrate football, group exercise, and community sport activities to support long-term participation and healthier lifestyles. Work with hub teams to create engaging sport-for-health initiatives that tackle inactivity, social isolation, and health inequalities. Promote the use of Leisure United’s facilities as welcoming environments for preventative health and wellbeing programmes. Staff Development & Support Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to hub-based teams and instructors. Support recruitment, onboarding, and workforce development for referral programme staff. Deliver training and promote continuous professional development across the wellbeing workforce. Monitoring, Evaluation & Impact Develop systems for programme monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Analyse participation, engagement, and health outcome data to demonstrate social impact and programme effectiveness. Produce reports for senior leadership, funding partners, and external stakeholders. Support funding applications and partnership proposals linked to health and wellbeing services. Other Activity The role will also be required to: Undertake any other reasonable management request, including duties as can be reasonably expected to ensure the smooth running and efficiency of Leisure United. Contribute to the ethos of continuous improvement by continuously seeking out opportunities to streamline processes, increase efficiency and further our charitable purpose.
